| Leggy Max is 4 mos and had his first groom. I had noticed his legs got longer and body the same. Now he looks skinny and taller. He weighs 3 lbs and is 8 1/2 in to shoulders. Is it normal for a yorkie to do this? |

| My Barney is very leggy. He has a long coat so it's not so noticeable. He is 17 months and 12 inches tall and around 11 inches long. He weighs 5.5-6 pounds depending on the time of day. Here are some pics from puppy to now so you can get an idea of how the leggies look in different stages. The wet hair picture really shows how long those legs are.

| Yes, they do have growth spirts just like kids do, sometimes growing taller then filling out. My Tiki was like that, tall and leggy, and somewhere after her first year her body filled out a bit more, though she stayed slim, and not like the little box shape as a puppy.

| Uni is a long legged supermodel! Come join our Long Leg Supermodel group so you can have a snazzy little icon on your profile page! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/group.php?groupid=102 Uni had normal shorter legs as a pup, but she had a growth spurt and she's got those long reindeer legs now! I think they make her more agile. However, when full grown, a yorkie should measure the same in height from floor to shoulder, and they are in length, from nape of neck to base of tail; meaning a perfect square. Many yorkies nowadays are bred to be shorter legged. That's not how it states they should be in the AKC standard. But either way, doesn't really matter unless they are being shown.

| My boys are both long-legged. Teddy looked like a giraffe when he was a puppy. He developed muscle in his 3rd year and filled out.
