| Other dogs do not like my puppy, especially this older australian yorkshire terrier My Harry is an 11 month old yorkshire terrier. He is very playful, sweet, and energetic. He is the only animal in my home. When I bring him around my bfs brothers gfs dogs..all heck breaks through from there dogs. My bfs brothers gf have 5 year old female maltese and a 2 year old australian yorkie. When Harry sees them he automatically jumos on them to play and sniff. This is all non aggressive btw, just play. Harry also starts his loud um..yelping and whining noise lol and he gets really close to them. The matese snaps no matter what and Harry will leave her alone but the male australian yorkie is always growling and snapping at my puppy. Its anoying because Harry just wants to be near him but the other dog wobt have it. (( I even had to put away my puppy in a room because the other dog gets too ahgressive and Harry just dont seem to care. I introduced Harry to the other dog when i got him at 7 weeks...the other dog acted the same way then. As if he's jealous or tryin to ahow dominance. Idk what to do. I am thinking of getting a female yorkie soon so Harry can have someone to have around and is young like him. What do u guys think? Last edited by HarrysMommy; 04-23-2014 at 08:50 AM. |

| Some dogs are just quirky. Are the Maltese and Yorkie ever socialized outside of the home? My dads dogs are not, and they're not big fans of other dogs in their house or yard. They'll deal but can get barky and snappy too. Also, puppies can overwhelm older dogs sometimes, especially if they're not living together 24/7 to get used to each other. Harry may need to learn more doggy manners as well. Some dogs don't know how to take it a hint when enough is enough. Also, is Harry neutered? I have found that unaltered dogs tend to be 'victims' at dog parks, etc. A lot of other dogs do not like unaltered males.

| I'm not sure but they live together and are together 24/7. Tge maltese will snap at her "brother" and he submits. I want to fix Harry's behaviour because he really is a nice puppy. Idk how to do that other than having another puppy to socialize with and teach him boundaries. I cannot do that with the other dogs. |

| I don't think they are, they're like bro and sis..around each ither 24/7 and live together. No, Harry isnt neutered. Im planning to breed him in a few years. The other yorkie is fixed. I spend a lot of play time and basic tricks with Harry to release energy and learn commands like sit, stay, lay down and fun stuff. How can I teach him manners? I feel as if he need more socialization with other dogs. That is why im thinking of getting another puppy and maybe i can ahow him how to act all the time. |

| Have you tried taking them to "neutral ground"? also, at what age did you get Harry? You saying that he doesn't care about agression aimed at him makes me think that he didn't spend enough time with his parents as a young pup. |

| My dogs are both fixed but they do not like dogs who are not. An example, on Easter our daughter brought her little silky who has been neutered with her and they all got along famously. Then comes BIL with his poodle (not fixed) All three of the fixed dogs growled and snapped at him because all he wanted to do was sniff and jump on them. I think to them it is a very aggrivating behavior. If you get Harry fixed it might solve some of your issues.

| We have tried the neutral ground at my bs moms back yard whixh is prety big. Harry enjoyed being out with them but they didnt seem interested in being in each otherabspaxe, well the othwr terrier anyway until we played games. Harry wouldnt care if he other dog(s) snapped at him or anything that warned him to get back. That scares me. I assume that as well far as not being around his parents im trying to fix it |

| You didnt offend me. He doesnt hump other dogs. He just jumps in there face licking and pawing. Today i took harry to a friends and her neighbor had a yr old yorkie and it was amazing. Harry and the other male Rudy got along so well. They sniffed and licked each other and barked a few times and that was it. I was amazed because that was the first dog that didnt get aggressive but responded the way Harry did The neighbor said that her yorkie is friendly and is exposed to other animals and hes not fixed. | Before we got Laddy fixed he was best friends with my BIL's poodle (not fixed) after he can't stand him so I think that is probably what is a lot of the issue is with ones that are fixed.

| I agree. There are a few things that arent nice about my bfs brothers gfs dogs. I hate to say it but they act really intrusive. When we are eating, they beg at the table and when people visit they bark like crazy. Also last month her maltese bit one of our friends. A lot of people thought it was funny and cute because she is tiny and white. I thouht it was terrible. |

| Laddy is a super friendly dog with all people and all animals except those who are not fixed. I don't know maybe its a envy of what he has lost lol. Kyra is the same and she has been spayed.

| What do you mean by Australian yorkie? Is it a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Australian terrier? When Callie was a puppy even though she was very small and didn't bite or was rough with my moms dogs (two beagle mixes) they still hated her.
