| Question about micro-chipping So we had Ripley spayed on Friday. She is doing well. We also had her micro-chipped. This is a first for me. So I was a little surprised to see a little scab on her where I think they injected the chip. Its about the size of an eraser head on a pencil. She does not like it if we try to touch it. I never thought it would be a sore. Is that normal?

| I'd ask the vet as my dog had no scab or sensitivity after his chipping. She might need antibiotics if the area were open enough to scab, it might get inflammed or infected.

| I didn't catch it till last night so I don't know if its come out or not. I did call my vet and he said that sometimes the site does scab. I'm going to keep an eye on it. Its not red or puffy - as of last night. If it doesn't look better by tomorrow, I will probably take her in for piece of mind...

| The fact that she doesn't want you to touch it says she's aware of it and that maybe it's sensitive or sore. A vet check couldn't hurt - you don't want her having a sore place there.

| Neither one of mine had scabs or were sensitive. I actually touch the spot once in a while to make sure the chip is where it should be. (I've read rare cases where the chip migrates) |

| Lola had a scab from her microchip, she didn't act like it was sensitive though. |

| Lilah had a tiny scab that I actually scratched off because I wasn't aware it was there (oops!) but it obviously didn't bother her |

| I do my own micro chipping and have not had one scab over....if a little blood were to leake from the injection site, it may scab over a little bit, I guess....but I have never had one sensitive to the site either. I would also have her scanned when you take her back in, just to be sure the chip in still in place....if they didnt put it in under the skin far enough, it can certainly back track and fall out! |
