| Hi YT, I'm Jai the mommy of Armani. I'm new to YT, my cousin told me about the site, so I decided to check it out for myself.. My little Armani is two yrs old now, she was at one point potty trained but after leaving her with a friend while I traveled she now needs diapers as I have no time to re train.. I was hoping to find great re useable diapers here? Any help on where to find them? I'm having a hard time.. Please help |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Washable panties can be purchased at pet stores and online stores. They are generally used with an incontinence pad. These should only be used as a backup and not as a substitute for potty breaks. Was Armani outdoor trained or do you also use piddle pads? The time required for potty training is the same amount of time that would be required for checking and changing diapers. If a dog is left in soiled diapers, she will likely develop an infection and skin problems. For both of your sakes, I would potty train. Confine her to a small area, xpen or gated off room, and start with the basics. If your time is limited, I would go with piddle pad training.

| Hi maximo, thx for the welcome & advice.. I crate her while I'm working, never left in the diaper. She was at one point trained to the potty pad. Now she just potty whenever she chooses, when I'm home. I take her out at least 3 times a day & she still decides to hide & potty .. I have a couple I purchased online & from pet stores but looking for better styles & quality. |

Make sure you praise her every time she potties in the correct place. Don't scold her when she does it wrong -- this will encourage her to continue hiding. My boys are 4 and 5 years old and we still praise them each time they use the pad. It's a sport to them and they run to the kitchen for their kibble reward. I even praise them outdoors on our walks.

| Welcome to yorkie talk Jai and Armani! One of my favorite potty training advice stories I have heard on here is to tether your pup to your side at all times (when you are home together) so you can be right on top of rewards and redirection. Seemed like a terribly clever idea to me. At our house we used baby gates and closed doors to limit the area that lilah was allowed to be in when I was home to supervise (for us that is the kitchen/living room with a hallway to the main restroom) there was a potty pad available in the restroom as well as in the main room. When I went to work though I felt that it was too long if a time frame for her to be expected to hold it in a crate (I don't think that 8-10hr rule was built for the bladder of a 4 lb yorkie!) so we did an excercise pen with her dog house and a potty pad in it that way she wouldn't establish den soiling habits that can come from crating for longer than their bladder can hold. We now only require one potty pad that stays in our restroom and she does not have to stay in the expen while I am at work (four days a week six hours but add a long commute) but we do still used close doors and baby gates for her general safety). It is tough to have to start from square one again but I am sure you guys can do it! Best of luck with your potty training!
