| Smart Dogs Sophie is my first Yorkie and boy I was not aware how smart they are and how much of a handful she was going to be but it is so much fun. We have had dogs on and off in the last 40 years we have been married but it has been 16 years (waited for retirement) since we have had one. We have been training Sophie on a puppy pad because when we got her we were having the worst winter in South Louisiana. We had a time of it as I am sure you all know they can be hard headed puppies. My husband had always said that he did not want a dog to sleep with us but while we were on our first trip with Sophie in our Motorhome we had a storm hit one of the nights. She was not bad but I could see she was a little afraid so my husband said why dont you let her come on the bed tonight. Well we all know what happened she has been in the bed with us since. One night I heard a thump and I felt for Sophie and she was not on the bed. I looked all around scared she had hurt herself because our bed is very high off the ground and I even need a little step to get in. My husband turned on the light and here is Sophie trotting out of the bathroom she had to go potty so she jumped off the bed and went on her pad. That day my husband set up a ramp so she could get up and down without hurting herself. Well last night she got up at 1:30 am and woke us up we just watch her trot into the bathroom and potty on her pad and at 5:30 am she did it again and both times found her way down the ramp and back to bed after she did her thing. Now I think that is pretty smart for a puppy almost 7 months old... Sorry this was so long but I thought it was a cute story to tell and I am proud of my little girl. |

| Your little Sophie sounds very alert and smart indeed!!! Yorkies tend to be somewhat stubborn but with persistent short periods of frequent training they can soak up everything we teach them if we keep them engaged and enjoying the training by making a fun game of it and always giving them positive reinforcement for getting it right. I find them delightfully easy to train in most things.
