| Can white rice cause itching? I starting giving Zoey white rice and chicken for an small meal before bedtime. I noticed she started scratching the very next day. Nothing else has changed in her life. Any opinions?

| A dog can have an allergy to any kind of food, same as people. It may be the chicken she's reacting to. |

| Dogs can have grain intolerances. Try to swap out rice for pasta and see if there is still an issue.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | She could be allergic to either the chicken or rice. I would take away the rice and just feed chicken...see what happens.

| I gave her green beans last night. She would not eat them. I will see how the scratching goes today. I like the idea of pasta but will have to check with the vet for fat levels. She is on a low fat Gastro RC diet for pancreatitis.

| Def. check w/ your vet but.... Barney is a pancreatitis dog, and I had a vet nutritionist make him a diet and she went with chicken + rice and then he has several substitutions he may have for variety for both his proteins and his carbohydrate. She has plain pasta as one of his swaps. That's why I suggested it, because it is low fat, and it seems to be ok for Barney. I think the amount of chicken matters too. It is not just fat that is a concern for pancreatitis but also protein. You do not want to overfeed protein because the pancreas enzymes are stimulated w/ fat AND with protein.

| Thanks for the info. Right now I will take her off both and see what happens. She can eat a small veggie dinner. Then I will introduce one at a time and see if she can handle it.
