| Carpet cleaner (need advice fast please) So Logan has once again spotted up our carpets. With the weather getting warmer, my living room is starting to smell like a public bathroom!! We have very thin carpeting with no pads underneath, so in theory cleaning these carpets SHOULDN'T be difficult... but I can't seem to figure out how to get the smell out of them. We've rented a shampooer and that seemed to work well for a little while, until he peed-it-up again! I'm going out shortly to pick up some supplies from Lowe's and a few other places, so I was wondering if anyone has any advice on something I could get and use over the entire carpet that will make my house smell less like a wee-wee pad?? We have the type of carpets where you can't see his "accidents" until you find yourself stepping in one! So I'm not sure WHERE he's even been doing this, only sure of a couple of spots. So I'd like to clean the whole room. ANY advice would be appreciated!! I'll spend a decent amount of money and work on this all day if I need to!! I just can't take the smell anymore and it definitely isn't helping with his self control either :/

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | To get the pee out, you really need an enzymatic cleaner that will breakdown the biological component of pee...enzymes actually are live things that digest/breakdown other things. Have you tried an enzymatic cleaner yet? Also, may want to add Odoban (from Home Depot, not Lowes) as a scent additive too.

Yeah I've used an enzymatic cleaner in a shampooer and also nature's miracle spray. The problem with the spray is that I can't see exactly where he's been going, so I can't really spot treat unless I catch him in the act =( Is there anything I can spray, let dry, and vacuum up? I just need to hold over until we get our own shampooer Warm temperatures + pee = terribleee

| You can try white vinegar and water and see if that takes care of it.

| You can get a light that detects urine if you are brave. Hopefully it won't light up in too many places.

I had the best results with a carpet STEAMER... and I had bought a professional rug cleaner and used it numerous times with professional chemicals. The carpet steamer did the best to eliminate the odors. Bissel , Shark... one of those types.

| Look at buying a carpet cleaner, that way you can clean when ever it happens and before it sets in. Our Queensland had kidney failure that we fought with special diet for 2 years and four months (Vet gave her 6 months), she would vomit without warning. The Hoover cleaner (about $200) kept carpet clean and fresh smelling, paid for itself in no time. |

| Saving my place here for the solution. I have tried sooo many things. Accidents are few and far between but hey they are yorkies and with two I don't know which one it is. Maybe both? Beside I think my daughters dogs didn't help. Here are the things I have tried: Odoban Natures miracle-red bottle, white bottle, shampoo Bissel cleaner Vinegar and baking soda Rug doctor steamer Spot shot Urine begone A gate between the family/kitchen for when it wasn't possible to directly eye them That light All this on my oriental rug. The rug would appear clean but when it became humid I could smell urine. The rug eventual was sent to the curb for the trash man. Now I have a cheap rug, 99.00 at Home Goods and if there is another accident, oh well. But I hope removing that rug helps.

ETA: Add Hydrogen peroxide to that list above! Also, a regular black light will show urine spots... the same as the urine detectors but they're cheaper.

| I agree with the white vinegar as a 1st try at least. I've never used it as a whole floor cleaner on carpet, but for the price its worth a shot. At least if it doesn't work you're not losing much. I use it on my hard floors and all the doggy laundry. It's supposed to break down the protein, which I guess is the stinky part. |

| I love it! Makes the floor so much warmer! And it's waterproof! I'll post a pic in a bit... Also, the first try should be the enzyme cleaners, as any chemical can kill and prevent the enzymes from doing their job...

| I say put a belly band on your pup before you clean the carpet!
