First vet visit and microchips We have a vet visit tomorrow morning. Is there any questions I should talk to the vet about for this breed specifically? Microchips.... What age should they get them and was wondering if I should get one put in my baby girl or wait. She is almost 9 weeks old.

Absolutely check with the vet. Ours is scheduled to implant a chip when Gracie is spayed in a couple of weeks. Apparently the needle is rather large for such small babies, so they prefer to do it while they are having another procedure. Congratulations on your new baby!

| A chip is often done at the time of spay, when they are under anesthesia, and that is often around 6-8 months old. However, I chose to have each of my girls chipped early just for their ID protection, and it was done without anesthesia. The vet assured me that it wasn't terribly painful and the microchip is about the size of a grain of rice.

First vet visit and microchips Hi, as a Groomer/Vet Tech I understand your concern. The needles used for microchipping ARE scary looking. I've always insisted on waiting until my females were having another procedure to have this done - until Halo. Believe me, she's a screamer ! I was amazed she didn't even flinch !! I feel bad that I convinced so many dog owners to allow me to lightly sedate their dogs for this to be done ! Halo was 6 months old when I had her chipped. Good luck

mine were chipped when spayed.....my vet said it hurts and for a tiny 4 lb dog she prefers to do it when they are under anesthesia from the spay.

Vet visit went good, he said to wait on microchip too. She is 2.5 lbs and he estimated her at 7 lbs full grow. She looks and sounds healthy to him. Sent a fecal exam off and should hear back by tomorrow on that.
