| Mad dog My little puppy Alfie is so odd, his best friends are Mazie - rough collie 9months old, Dudley - Westie cross 2years. Recently i have been watching them play and Alfie likes to get Dudley giddy then he swings around and shoves his butt in Dudley's face, he allways does it and it makes me wonder why on earth he feels the need to do this to poor old Dudley!? |

| My niece's dog does that to Magnus... She's the submissive one. So the butt throwing is showing submission? |

| Usually when one dog turns his back on the other, it's a friendly gesture - an inducement to get to know them better and play. It's one of their ways of baiting and enticing other dogs to interact with them. Dogs realize their scent glands that tell other dogs a lot of information about them are in their anal area so offering their behind is a friendly gesture - like humans shaking hands or patting someone on the back and smiling and giving a friendly greeting. When Tibbe wants to play with me or other dogs, he often turns his butt on me or the other dog and looks back over his shoulder as if to say, "See - you can smell that I'm a nice guy, friendly, fun so let's play!". If the other dog doesn't appreciate the gesture, it's not because it isn't a friendly one, it's just that he's not that accepting of the one making the gesture right then but most dogs accept it as an invitation of amity and play.

| LOL. He sounds adorable - and a fun guy, trying to entice his buddy to play with him. Too bad the others don't have all the energy and love of playing he does, poor little guy.

| Ahahah yeah they get bored because he is a little sod! He weaves in and out between their legs and then runs away and hides! He runs round the foot stool until Mazie comes pver to play, then he runs either side, jumps onto it then onto her! Last edited by KatiePeg; 04-08-2014 at 11:23 PM. |
