| Intestinal Lymphangiectasia Hello, My 7 year old Yorkie was just diagnosed with Lymphangiectasia, which is a congenital disease that yorkie's get. I would like to hear from other yorkie owners who have experience with this disease and how it affected your yorkie. |

| I had a yorkie with that, he lived a good life for about 6 years after diagnoisis by taking a prednisone pill a few times a week. He died at about age 9, I think he could have lived longer but when my older yorkie died from a tumor Duffy got very sad and was not eating well, the vet felt it was the last stages of the Lymha... so he had us up the dose of prednisone and frankly it was too much he wound up with pancreatic problems and lots of bloody stools and really lost weight quickly, I took him to MI State Vet Hospital but it was to late, the prednisone ruined his pancreas. My husband and I felt that if he had just ridden out his grief out by giving him treats and chicken scraps he might have lived longer, but at that time I did not have a computer to research stuff, (this was about 10-12 years ago) We have a well known member here named Linda she runs Yorkie Haven and goes by the board name of Lady Jane, she has a thread about this in the sick and injured section and has a lot of recent experience with this disease, I suggest you try to seek that thread out, and I am sure she will jump on here and help you. All I can say is be very careful if you use prednisone to not over do it, less is definitely not more with that type of med.

| I went to search for the thread but see you found the sick and injured section and connected with Linda, I saw your question, my dog did have the bloated stomach that's the only way I knew he had a problem. I did not even notice it until I was giving him a bath at around 7;30 the night before we were leaving on a two week trip to Italy. I rushed him to the ER vet and they drained about 6-8 oz of fluid from his tummy, the vet had a hunch what the problem was and started him on the prednisone. Duffy did fine with diet management and the low does of pred. I really think with the right balance of meds and diet your pup has a very good chance of living a good life, you never would have known mine had a problem. Good luck I am sure hearing this is very upsetting.
