| Hello! Hey there! I'm the new owner of a toy parti yorkie. He's 10 weeks old and 12oz is that normal? He seems very healthy and adjusting well. I have a small concern about how much he scratches. He has done it since I brought him home 2 weeks ago. He digs behind both ears to the point of crying and he scratches with his back legs on both sides of his back side. He's been bathed with oatmeal type shampoo for puppies and deflea from the vet but he is relentless with it. He'll stop midplay to scratch. There's no scabs or dry skin that I can see. Is there anything I can do for him? Thank you! |

| This is a great place to find out about yorkies! I would take a yorkie that young and that small back to the vet for crying when he scratches his ears.In the mean time I would just use plain puppy shampoo (not oatmeal) very sparingly and rinse him with clear water over and over (might need an extra pair of hands to hold him) |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Sorry he is so itchy. If he had fleas before the treatment, he could have itchy bites that take a while to heal, or an alergy of some sort. Did the vet check his ears for ear mites or ear infection? I'd take him back to the vet to find out for sure, so you won't let him suffer any longer than necessary. Good luck, and keep us posted.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your new baby. His size is normal, but on the small side and requires extra attention. I agree that he needs to see the vet again to rule out mites, ear infection, or reaction to flea bites. With your pup being tiny, anemia is a potential risk. Fleas also carry tapeworms and can cause secondary skin infections that require antibiotics. Dog Flea Treatment | petMD In addition to the vet, vacuum your home thoroughly every day, and wash his bedding as often as possible. Fleas lay eggs quickly. Although oatmeal shampoo can be soothing to some dogs, it can also be an irritant to others. Try a different shampoo. Lather up your pup well and let it sit for a minute or two, massaging your pup at the same time. This will help kill fleas and remove flea eggs. Follow up with a conditioner to soothe. At his age and size, I don't know which if any flea preventative would be recommended. Talk to your vet.
