| Has anyone actually found out their yorkie was mixed with silky. I'm just curious as to anyone that has questioned their furbaby breed actually found that they were mixed with a silky. I just find it odd that Silky Terrier is a breed people associate with a yorkie that doesn't fit their idea of how it should look when Silky not that popular a breed. It'd be much easier for me to get a hold of a yorkie than a silky and don't see people going through the trouble just to pass one off as the otherMost often it's because of size that people question it. Tonight Draco was questioned because he has a silky coat. He's in a training class at Petsmart, and that was the trainers remark. She's a nice girl, and I didn't really feel like going into detail with her. But I was just a little surprised that it was her reason, when any breed book tells you that Yorkies have silky coats. It only came up by comparison of another Yorkie puppy we saw in her other class. He's 4months already the size of Draco and looks super fluffy like a cute teddy bear so I think he'll turn out cottony coated. She compared him to Draco and said Draco reminded her of a silky terrier, I really want to brush it off that she probably just sees more cotton coated Yorkies with short hair coming in for grooming, whereas I'm growing Draco's out. .

| Yeah I have questioned it before with Jackson, because he definitely has the appearance of a Silky more than a Yorkie, as well as the temperament, but honestly? Odds are he's just a badly bred Yorkie. With Silky's being less known in the States, it just would seem odd to me. Unless the breeder herself did not know either. I use the word "breeder" lightly. So while it's possible that Jackson is a Silky, it's more than likely that he's just an out of standard Yorkie. And first of all, I remember being shocked that so many people even KNEW what a Silky Terrier was. They just seem so rare and not talked about a lot, so when people ask me if that's what he is, it always amazes me. But too many people think bigger Yorkie automatically = a Silky. Or a silky coat = Silky Terrier. I can definitely see where the confusion comes in. Both are silky-coated breeds. They do have any similiarties and are from the same 'family'. But a well-bred Silky and a well-bred Yorkie are very easy to tell apart.

| I would approach this girl at the next class and tell her that the Yorkie is SUPPOSED to have a silky coat. A silky terrier and a yorkshire terrier sometimes do look alike but I think their paws and feet look different. A silky has more of a "cat-like" paw than a yorkie to me. I also think the ears are more pointed and longer. Don't let people like this bother you though, yorkies come in all shapes and sizes and some have color variations.

| Silky terriers are a cross between Yorkies and Australian Terriers, so they look very similar. I would not take it as an insult.

| I would be annoyed annoyed that some idiot at the pet store had an opinion about my dog's coat when she should be conducting training that I was paying for. A yorkie at 4 months of age has a puppy coat and unless you are a breeder or really experienced yorkie owner it is very hard to say what that coat will look like when it is an adult. I would probably have suggested she teach my dog to roll over on command or whatever she should be doing instead of staring at his coat and speculating about his breed.

I've had a few people try to give me their opinions regarding my babies too. Doesn't go over well. . There are breeders that will mix a make Yorkie and female Silkie (one YT member/breeder comes to mind ) because Silkie throw larger litters of puppies. It's all about the $$$$

| I wouldn't take insult to it. A lot of times people are simply trying to start up conversation. *shrugs* Not everyone is knowledgable about breeds. My mom wouldn't know the difference between a Labrador and a Golden in most cases. My stepmom thinks Min Pins are Mini Dobermans. She loves dogs, she is just not knowledgeable about breeds. Granted, a dog trainer should maybe be moreso, but the fact that she asked doesn't seem like a big deal to me. People often ask me "Is THAT a yorkie?!" when seeing my 18lb, long bodied, athletic, full-tailed creature. LOL. It does not offend me in the least and I often say with a question mark myself. He MAY be a Silky... I don't honestly know.

| When Charlie was a puppy, he was so big I remember his groomer questioning his size to me once too. I remember it made me feel bad too... But I got over it. LOL Now when someone meets him, I tell them right off the back, he's a big Yorkie. I have no question he is all yorkie, but people just expect him to be tiny because he's a yorkie. |

And I didn't feel insulted, or really bothered and kinda just brushed it off. But it just the fact that she works at a pet store and isn't some passerby and that was her reason not because of his face or something that made more sense. Then it made me think about all the yorkietalkers who said that their Yorkie had been mistaken as one too for odd reasons.

| They will use a very small male Yorkie and a larger Silkie female hoping to produce more puppies. There was even another member who came on YT a few years ago that wanted help forging AKC registry for her unregistered female Yorkie she was planning on breeding. Just imagine how that went over....LOL
