| Is Getting littermates ever a good idea ? Hi everybody I have Maxie and Maisie they are littermates and best friends, they are bonded but they still love all of our family and are bonded to us .I know it isn't a good idea normally to get littermates and most breeders will not even consider it but my grandma, is a kennel club breeder so she trusted me with the twins as the people who first took Maxie gave him up because they couldn't look after him and give him the attention he needed so I took him home and the rest is history but what do you think is it a good idea to get litter mates guys x. |

| I know a lady who has 3 Yorkie siblings- two littermates and a big sister from the same parents. The big sister originally had her littermate, too, but she died. =( Anyway, it is totally doable, and I don't understand why it would be considered a "bad" idea.

| I have never heard that "most breeders will not even consider it"....I have sold several sets of littermates....excellent results, no issues with bonding with their humans, and they are best friends with each other. No problems! |

| I had littermate poodles, most of the time they got along wonderfully but they had their sibling spats. They loved each other and spent a lot of time together, but they loved people too. The only negative I've ever heard about littermates is they can be harder to potty train. |

| I think if you are able to potty train and take care of two puppies financially and every other way more power to you. I was 19 when I got Callie and although we had pups growing up she was my first pup that was all mine and totally my responsibility and it was hard work and she was any easy puppy so I could not imagine two at the same time lol.

| Well my granny didn't like selling littermates to one person because of how hard it can be on both you and the little babies I'm not saying that all breeders don't not saying that at all. |

| Oh, OK.....I have been doing this quite awhile and been around a ton of breeders and had not ever heard any of them say this....that is why I got confused by your "most breeders...." statement, as I have never heard it from another breeder!! As breeders, we all have our own individual opinions about different things, (like small kids and doggie doors), so not selling littermates to the same person was something your granny believed was best, and I can appreciate what she considered important to her! |

| I didnt get littermates but I got 2 from the same breeder and they are 1 month apart in age they have the same dad and our breeder was thrilled we were getting 2 of her babies. I really didnt think potty training or vetting 2 at once was any big deal

| My Shih Tzu had four pups and I kept two. When mom died a few weeks after delivery they had each other. They lived to an old age and were very bonded and a delight to watch. Molly was definitely Sonny's boss. When she passed he grieved for months. Litter mates are great.
