| Keeping hair out of eyes? I'm having trouble keeping my puppies hair out of her eyes. I try to tie her hair in a top knot but eventually all the strands just come out of the knot anyway and poke her in the eye. I'm trying to grow out her nose hair and her top knot hair. So far, there's a lot of short pieces midway to the top of her head. If I try to put too much of the nose hair downward the hairs end up blocking her view so I push them up. She also gets a lot of eye boogers that I need to clean often. I look at pictures of all your babies here and everyone looks so beautiful with no hair in their eyes lol. How do you maintain it so the eye area is always clean and so no hairs stick out? Is her hair just too short still?

| The growing out stage can be challenging. Here is a thread that contains a lot of tips: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ing-i-did.html

Definitely re-do the topknot at least once a day. I use water mostly because I am afraid too much topknot gel will end up in their eyes.

| The growing out stage is the hardest. If that is you goal, don't give in!! Kristen have you great thread to read. If Kaji's hair was nice, if grow it out again too. I think it's harder when cut short. I'm constantly cleaning and cuting the hair near his eyes. When he had a topknot, it was just adjusting his "ninja knot" when I got home from work and in the morning.

| The growing out stage is rough--but my blonde boy had such eye irritation and staining, it was non-optional. Oddly, my groomer just trimmed up my female and--out of habit?--cut her facial hair on her nose and below her eyes. So, although the top knot is about half-way there (and sparse), we're starting over with the face...we feel your pain!

| Growing out those top hairs takes a lot of patience for both you and your pup. I recommend using the tiny non latex grooming bands since they don't catch and break off the tiny hairs as the rubber ones do. Change the topknot every day. The longer it stays in the more hairs will slip out and they tend to break as they wind around the band. You can also try using a good all natural conditioning spray on the topknot everyday as it will help keep the hair hydrated and healthy. They do sell a gel for dogs that some people like. It is supposed to hold the hairs in place a little longer. Gracie hated it though and would rub her face on the floor every time I used it. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Hair in Eyes Shelby, at almost 8 months, is just getting to the point where most of the hair is long enough for topknot - so it does take a while to grow out. But the fact that I've been getting what I could up there (and leaving a few strands out because they were too short) for some months has gotten her used to it - so it's now pretty fast. The few strands I'd have to leave out fortunately were not actually getting in her eyes. Aside from bands, etc. (which I got from Jenny/ Mimimomo at toplinepet.com) - I also keep tiny little scrunchies around - which I also got from her. It's a great temporary solution (though usually just lasts a couple of hours for me) when you don't want to do the whole band thing. [A casual afternoon, whatever....] Alec |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I have been growing Galen's out. It is worth it. It just takes patience. But it will be worth it.
