| Taking Daisy to the beach In an effort to chase away the winter blues I planned our summer vacation. We're renting a house at beach. We've never taken Daisy to the beach before. Is there anything we should know/do. She's a 2 year old, 9 lb yorkie poo. Her fur is pretty fine. What do I do to keep her from getting a sunburn. Will an umbrella be enough or should I plan on getting her some kind of shirt, visor, etc? Thanks! |

| you can buy doggie sunblock on amazon......or have her wear shirts but if it is hot I suggest the sunblock. poo bags. travel water bowl. Amazon.com: Epi-Pet Sun Protector Spray for Pets:... thats the link to one I have but I believe there are a couple to choose from. Wishing you a super happy vacation.

| Make sure the beach and area are dog friendly. Also be prepared for off leash big dogs. You might want to get Daisy a life vest and booties. |

| All of what everyone has posted, also make sure she has something for fleas. As sand does at times have fleas in it.

| Yes, make sure you are allowed dogs on the beach. In Destin, you have to have a permit (which they only give to owners who live in Destin). They ticket you big time there.

Senior Yorkie Talker | We took Bull to the beach last summer. We had him wear baby tshirts when necessary. Remember to take your grooming kit. I brushe off sand and salt everyday. We had the time of our lives! Hope you enjoy it too!!! I am attaching a pic of him on the beach!

| To expand on my post: My cousin and aunt took their 3 dogs to a dog beach near ocean city nj. It's pretty small. There were tons of big, off leash dogs, dog poop, sand fleas, and one of the dogs wouldn't walk on the hot sand (she's about 35lbs). They left very quickly. Dogs aren't allowed on the boardwalk, even in a stroller. They just got ice cream on the way home and that was it. I took Lola to Rehoboth DE, didn't try to take her on any beach. She was allowed to go shopping in the outlets and in the shops near the boardwalk. She wasn't allowed on the boardwalk. |

| Thanks so much everyone! There are SO MANY things that I never would have thought of! Dogs are allowed on the beach where we're going. We will be there during a time that's not super busy so I hope that there won't be tons of other dogs there. I will prepare for anything. I LOVE the idea of a baby t-shirt, also sun block. I'd love to find a stake and long lead so that she can be staked on the beach. Life vest, sand fleas and sun block! Who knew!? You guys are awesome! |

| We've just always made sure to have water and a long leash (I use a 50ft one in the more unpopulated beaches). I can't imagine putting a shirt on him in the hot weather. I keep his hair short, never had a problem with sunburn or anything. He loves the beach and runs around like a crazy man.
