Yorkie Talker | mouth My Yorkie is 6 1/2 months and puts everything in her mouth. Have no idea where she finds things. A lot of things I know she brings in from the yard and must dig them up. A dead frog, a grub worm, spark plugs, anything. I am so afraid she will swallow something that will hurt her. I watch her all thr time but she is always running around with her nose down to the ground. She does the same in the house. Will she grow out of this. Would appreciate any help. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and WELCOME to YT! Congrats on your new kiddo. It's tough, bc puppies do want to put everything in their mouth - same as how human babies go through that stage. They do grow out of it to a certain extent, but they still will interact a lot w/ their mouths even as adults. When she's outside, are you right there with her? You could try putting her on a leash when you take her outside so you can have a bit more control. It's def worrisome to think of her picking up the wrong thing outside, and/or choking hazards.

| How about a little fabric muzzle while she's outside? I would think its worst if you miss her swallowing something and having to do surgery to remove. My vet uses it when he's pulling blood and they don't mind it. Also I had a friend who's dog would catch frogs looks like one day she bit a toxic one and died she was 1 years old.

Yorkie Talker | I have heard that frogs are poison to them. Buttercup has brought 2 into the house that have been dead for a while and I fuss at her. She will put it down and turn that little head sideways and look so sweet. She loves to be outside with my Sheltie and now my husband has fence in a play yard for her so maybe she will stop picking up things. Really doubt it tho. She finds things we never see. Sure hate to put a mussel on her but might have to. I surely would die if anything happen to her. Love her sooo much !!! Thanks for your help |

| These pups are like a 2 year old toddler....they are into everything and 90% goes into their mouths.....and some NEVER grow out of it!! You have to puppy proof your house as well as your yard.....I go thru my yard everysingle time my pups go outside....I check the fence line to be certain no animal has dug under the fence to get into the back yard....I check the ground to be sure there are no foreigh objects like bones, nuts and acorns from squirrels, corn cobs from somebodys trash that a squirrel or stray cat may have dropped in the yard, etc....and I section my yard off so that no one is ever out of sight, like behind the garage, around the corner of the house, etc. I have a neighbor kid next door that is a thug/hoodlum....he has thrown all kinds of posioned hunks of meat, fish hooks, chicken bones, etc over the fence to do deliberate harm to my dogs, so I am on constant patrol in my yard out of desperation.....(he thinks I had something to do with turning him in for setting the neighborhood school on fire one night....) | They do usually grow out of it. Callie was really bad for a while. You might want to use a leash when out side and a play pen when inside and you can't watch. I tried to puppy proof everything to the best of my ability but some stuff you forget about. In puppy class we learned how to teach drop it and leave it you may want to teach those. Callie was constantly bringing in dead frogs and once at midnight she was running around the yard with a dead baby snake and I could not catch her.

Yorkie Talker | I will be glad when if ever Buttercup grows out of picking up things. She finds things in thin air I think. She wants you to chase her and makes a point of letting you know she has something shes not suppose to have. I do my very best but please pray for me and her. Thanks for all your help. |
