| Teeth question My husband was playing with Prince earlier and noticed that he has 2 sets of canines on the top. One set is his baby and the other the permanent teeth! Have any of you guys experienced this? The baby teeth of the canines are not lose either! He was just going to the vet tomorrow for his rabies shot, but i am for sure having my vet look at this. I tryed to take a picture but camera and him were not being nice! So back to my question have any of you had this problem?

| Yes, that happened to Gus. It didn't seem like the baby teeth were going to come out on their own so I was going to have them pulled when he was neutered but by that time they had all fallen out except one. Looks pretty strange and the smell was awful!

| That happened to Gucci also. She had all four pulled when she was spayed. They weren't loose either. I made sure to brushed them good and get food that might have gotten stuck between them. |

| Samson had this with his bottom two canines. The vet said if they weren't bothering him (still eating and acting normal) to let it go and see if they come out on their own. One day I looked and they were gone! Never found them anywhere but I actually never found any of his baby teeth. He did have two pulled when he got neutered but I'm not sure if they would have pulled his canines had they not come out by then or what. |

| This happened to us too and the vet told me to wait until he was 9 months and bring him back in. Well none of the baby teeth were loose so he had to get a lot pulled. I didn't want it to affect his bite. Hope they come out on their own!

and Tucker's too! Donating Yorkie Yakker Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Boston, MA

| This is very common. Tucker had 2 sets, but his baby teeth eventually fell out. It is common for Small Breeds to have baby teeth that don't fall out on their own. If they don't they should be pulled by the vet - this usually can be done when the pup is spayed or neutered...

| This is not unusual but only your vet can determine if they will fall out on their own or if your vet will need to remove them. Most people have it done when they are spaying/neutering their little ones. You cannot ignore this or you could be harming the long term health of your puppy.

| I had Oscar neutered at 8 months and they pulled 6 baby teeth that had not fallen out on their own. This is very common in toy breeds and also happened with my Chihuahua. I had them pulled with him also...my only mistake was going into the surgery with him (my vet was a very dear friend). I saw my baby on that table with a tube down his throat...I lost it...Tom thought he was going to have to work on me! LOL I can watch it all day on television but when it is your own, it is a whole new deal. The surgery was very easy with both dogs. Oscar was eating his hard food that night after having the teeth pulled. He never missed a beat. The risk of keeping them is much worse and decay of the teeth can actally lead to bone loss in the jaw if left unattended. It is MUCH better to get those baby teeth pulled. But, any time anesthesia has to be used, there is risk. You just have to make a decision based on what is best in your pup's situation. Some teeth do fall out on their own with time.
