| Join the sloppy top-knot club! Even if I get Gunners in right, or it looks good, it will look messy as soon as I put him on the ground! Do you have a pillow for him to lay his head down when you do the top-knot? I use a car neck pillow and have taught Gunner "head down" and he will lay his head down and close his eyes. There are many video's on youtube on how to do one, but I didn't learn much from those. I think it is just practice makes perfect? (or in my case not so perfect but who cares)!

| Practice practice practice, for you and the pup. Lola was 9 or 10 months old before she learned to sit still. I sit on the couch with Lola between my lap and the arm rest with her head on a folded towel. I use a rat tail comb to seperate the hair, then comb the pony tail to smooth the loose hairs. After the band is in make sure it isn't too tight or pulling any hairs. It just takes practice to get it in the right spot and at the right angle. |

| Are you wanting an "official topknot" or just putting your pups hair up? I gave up doing a correct top knot. I just use scrunchies and hair bows with a "top pony tail". Lol.

| Here is what we do twice daily. Morning I put in the top-knot at night it comes out. We've been doing this since he came home so he is used to it. I tell him "head down" and he will lay down and close his eyes. I use the detangling spray after I take the band out. Last photo is all done and now he gets his cookie for being a good boy. He is laying on one of those neck pillows you buy for long flights. It was a couple of dollars at Wally World.

| Put the band in a little bit up then let the hair all sort of fan over the band. Pick a few hairs right in the middle and pull up and it will create a little poof. I hope that makes some sense….. |

| Also Smooth those little frizzies down around the base or they will get tangled up in your twist, I use top knot gel or if nothing else a little water |

I was just trying to show the OP how to put the dog on the table and have her lay her little head on a pillow to allow her to put the top-knot in.

| Within seconds of doing my Lou Lou's topknot she shakes her head and the pony tail is usually flopping over her face...When I take it out she looks like ''It'' from the Adams family...At least she lies still to let me do it.. Shirl |

| Ricky's got a messy topknot and he hates me messing with it. He hides under the coffee table or in his dog house if he sees me going for the brush. I just started using scrunchies and those are wonderful though...much easier to use than the rubber bands. I did buy some doggie hair gel and it helps a little when I use it. I went to a dog show last month, hoping beyond hope that I could find a show breeder who would show me how to put a top knot in, but I ended up missing everything but the puppy class with one entry in it and her pup didn't have the traditional topknot because the hair was too short. What is a top knot pillow?? |

| I've not seen the top-knot pillow but I use one of those neck pillows you buy for driving or flying? Called a travel pillow, you can get them at walmart or amazon.

| Ooooohhhhh, Abby hates to be brushed. I don't know that she would lay on the pillow for me to put a top knot in. (Especially seeing the brush in my hand)

I'm just happy getting a "top pony tail" ( love that name ). I have to use one of those groomer bands (that's a chore in itself ) or nothing stays in.

I think I have one of them. Maybe I'll give it a try. Don't know how she will react.
