| Jumping off Sofa I have read here on YT that is't not good for yorkies to be jumping off sofas and I understand why. Everything that I have read concerning this is talking about the smaller yorkies (4-7lbs) Coco is 11lbs and like most yorkies she is VERY energetic. She loves to run around the living room and be chased. She jumps up onto the sofa and then she jumps off, runs around a bit more and back up onto the sofa and down again. We have hard wood floors but we have an area rug in front of the sofa so it helps a little. Keep in mind that when we built our house we didn't have Coco and I have allergies so that's why we didn't put carpet in the house. So, should I be crazy worried about her hurting herself since she's not a smaller yorkie? Thank you |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Do not let your Yorkie jump off the sofa. I put some little steps up to my sofa and my old senior Spud uses them.. JoJo the young "housewrecker" my husband calls him. will jump up and off. I worry about the old one. Just be careful, You do not want an accident and leg broke from jumping. |

| Jumping off Sofa I Have had 3 yorkies, all appox. 11 lbs. but I had / have carpeting. Each one of them would jump on & off the sofa, all of them would play crazy dog, galloping fly on the sofa, fly off the sofa, no leg issues with any of them, I have my 4th one, crazy boy, he does the same thing. It's the smaller one's (5.0 & less) where concern comes in. They are more delicate. Any thing over 10lbs not a issues unless you do not have a carpeted area where they can slide when they jump off and injure a leg or 2. enjoy your lil fur baby, Yorkies are the best. |

| My boys are larger too, 9 pounds. I let them jump up and down from the couch to the carpeting. However, I do not let them jump from the height of a bed, or from the car to the hard pavement. I put the boys on the back of a firetruck to take a picture this past summer. Teddy surprised me and jumped to the pavement. It took him a few seconds to shake off the impact. I could tell that was not good.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I am glad you are cautious. These Yorkies are fearless and they do leap off things. I have a chair by the bed so my boys use that when they get down. I had a Yorkie named Teddy Peanut. I bet your Teddy is full of play like my Teddy was. Enjoy the Yorkies! They are the cutest! |

| We don't let her jump from any height comparable to a bed. We have a trunk at the foot of our bed that has padding on top of it just in case she wants to get off the bed at night. Most nights she doesn't though. I honestly don't know what I would do with her if I had to completely stop her little track race around the living room and up and down off the sofa. At least I feel a little more at ease since she's not a small yorkie. Thank you for the help |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Be careful my vet told me Yorkies can get bad knees I bought my Spartacus a bed and he has his own blanket. I trained him to to jump on stuff in the house I had a dog break a paw that way. I live in the country so he runs all day chasing squirrels or whatever. O by the way my cat Oreo chases him around the house lol he's such a character. |

Accidents are always possible, but as long as she isn't leaping from the height of a typical bed (they get higher all the time, don't they??) or jumping onto a hard floor, I wouldn't worry. My neighbor has a 4 pound girl who bounces off of everything. Scares me to death!

| Jackson is allowed to do whatever he wants basically. There's no stopping him anyhow. lol. He leaps on/off the picnic tables in the yard, he's always on/off furniture - beds, couches, going from one couch to the next, etc. When I open the back door at my dads house, if he sees something in the yard, he leaps off the small deck (3 stairs) and doesn't even use the stairs, ha. He leaps into my dads huge pickup truck in one swift jump (as I hobble up into it) and often not even just from the ground to the car floor but the seat itself! it always amazes me. He's agile and seems aware of what he's capable of. I don't worry. I'm sure others would cringe, but it comes so natural to him, and it's such a normal occurrence. He's also 17lbs. But if I put stairs leading up to my bed, he would literally just leap over top of them lol.

| No small dog should be allowed to jump off of furniture as it will usually eventually cause disc issues. My little ones have all been taught to wait for me to remove them from the furniture, once in awhile they will jump off on their own but for the most part they wait for me. I have been rescuing dogs for many yrs & lots have had spine issues caused from jumping off of furniture so this is something I'm firm about in my house. And it's not just the tinies this happens too as the ones I have rescued were all between 8 & 15 lbs of all diff breeds. Also I prefer a ramp vs steps as steps still allow too much of a jolt to their spine. |

| We have hard wood floors so I have little steps for Athena and my shih Tzu Zeus ( 15 pounds) Athena is still small enough she cant get up on the couch unless we put her there or ahve the steps there for her. but I dont let her on unless someone is sitting with her. She does use the stairs, but she hasnt learned yet not to go over the arm of the couch. This scares me. Plus when someone comes home and she gets excited she looses all her sense wand will try to just fly off the couch, forgetting the steps. she is only 8 week old. so yes this is a problem. I hate this, because that means I have to take the steps away for Zeus to keep her off. but, he , at 15 pounds, I dont worry about as much jumping off the couch, a bed yes. Plus, I have put a big pillow in front of the couch for him to jump down on. this works out really good for him. Its a pillow that is big enough that we often use it as a dog bed for our 25 pound dog. |

And I've used this vid before, but you can start seeing right around the :50 second mark, him getting up and down off the bed, it's literally with such ease, if there were a ramp or stair there, he wouldn't use it anyway.
