| ugh! This matting is driving me crazy! Lilah will be 5 months old on 2/12. The past week she has started matting horribly! I brush her daily, wash weekly and use conditioner. She got a bath late yesterday and a few hours later I found a mat, and this morning there is a big one on her side. Really hoping this is just a transition phase from puppy to adult coat bc if this is indicative of her adult coat it's gonna drive me crazy Last edited by Sukey; 02-10-2014 at 09:35 AM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be the puppy coat transition, or it could just be the texture of her coat. One thing that I find helps w/ my Marcel, who also mats terribly, is to use a leave-in conditioner after his shampoo - and I use a lot of it! It helps keep his coat softer and easier to manage.

| That's the frustrating thing w/puppy hair...they move, they tangle! Has she been wearing clothes since it's been cold? It sounds like constant rubbing tangles that clothing causes, like on the sides...brush, then brush some more, use a lot of conditioning/detangling spray like Ann mentioned. Sometimes I had to brush 2-3 x's a day to keep the tangles away.
