I Must sell my one year old Yorkie.... I need some advice or suggestions. Because of "budgeting" matters, I have to move. Where I am moving I cannot keep my little Yorkie (J.W.)..................Just makes me sick. So.....I will be very particular about who gets him with background checks, references, etc.............but........... How much should I charge? He is a one year old male...........pure bred........and, I gave $600 for him. Any suggestions........? Thanks............ Rick

Is you Yorkie microchippedor tatood or have some other form of ID? Be sure and notify any ID registery that you are transferring ownership so that can be updated. Did you get your Yorkie from a breeder that has a contract that specifies you must return the pup to the breeder if you have to give the dog up? At a year old, is the pup up to date on his vaccines, and has he been neutered? If he has not, and he only cost $400.00 to begin with, I really dont think you should be charging anything for him.....any new owner has to have him neutered yet, along with dental care and possibly vaccines. These three things alone could run them over what you initially paid for your pup. It may be better for you to relenquish him to a reputable rescue that will make absolutely certain he goes to a new home that has been screened well, assuring that he goes to a loving, caring home that will love and care for him. You have to be very careful that whomever you would sell him to, or give him to, was concerned about the best interest of your young man, and not see him as a chance to make money by reselling him....you certainly would not want that to hapopen....you want to be sure your young man spends the rest of his life in a loving home. Good luck with this....I am sorry you have been plunged into a bad economic situation....I wish you couldkeep your buddy.

If you can't find a small dog or Yorkie rescue to help you then keeping the price high is a good idea. Please make sure he is neutered before you sell him. There are a lot of people out there wanting to make some money breeding dogs. It is very difficult to keep a breeding male from marking inside the house so many times they end up being kenneled for most of their lives. Puppy mills are always looking for cheap purebreds to use for breeding as well. I hate to also mention that people who are into dog fighting also are in the market for small to medium dogs and cats to help "train" their dogs to kill. Be careful. You can go on the petfinder website and do a search for a Yorkie rescue or a small dog rescue in your state. Not a shelter, a rescue. A good rescue will go through a lot of trouble interviewing people before they decide which one gets the dog. They even go to the home to do an on site visit. (something you might consider doing for your little guy) They don't just hand them out like a shelter would. I hope something will change so you don't have to get rid of the little fella but if not then best wishes on finding a great home.
