YorkieTalk Newbie! | Hi! Hi everyone, we are from Toronto my babies name is Lily. She's our first canine daughter, she has two teenage sisters. We adopted Lily about 5 months ago she just turned 6 months old. I can't even remember life before her she fits into our family perfectly and is honestly the final piece to our puzzle. I had dogs growing up, and tons of them in our extended family but she is our first very own family dog. I don't even know what it was about her but the minute I saw her picture I fell in love before that I was impartial to having my own dog, loved everyone elses to bits but I was perfectly happy just being an auntie. Lily is getting spayed tomorrow and I am extremely nervous about it, scared for her to be there alone and petrified of caring for her properly when she comes home so wish me luck everyone. Potty training her has been a challenge but she's doing good ( I think) don't have much to compare it to since she's our first dog and still just a pup. I look forward to having you all to come to for help and advice. Cheers Lena |

| Hi Lena, welcome to YorkieTalk! There is so much info here and some of the friendliest people, too! We can certainly share your anxiety about the surgery--it's so hard to leave them at the vet. Do you have some onesie baby undershirts for her to wear after the surgery to keep her from bothering her stitches? Our Yorkie, Puff, will be 2 in May. She was very pitiful the day after the surgery, but improved quickly afterwards. Will you be able to stay home with her for the first few days after her surgery? I didn't know about this until after Puff was spayed, but some people get their leg x-rayed before the surgery to make sure the growth plates have closed. Just something to consider. Again, welcome to YT!

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thank you for understanding my anxiety not even sure how I'm going to get threw the work day tomorrow?? I purposely booked her for a Friday so I can be home with her for the weekend and I've talked my husband into taking Monday off! She's so full of energy and playful and I know it's normal for her to be sluggish and sleepy but it's going to break my heart I know it! Thanks for the onesie idea that's actually ingenuis, our vet recommended the cone collar for her I'm going to dig around the girls old baby stuff! Any good tips on potty training? We are pad training, she's so awesome most of the time but sometimes when she's in a different part of the house she has accidents, and alot of times on beds?? I honestly think she just gets distracted and is too lazy to go downstairs to pee. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I remember how scared I was each time my kiddos got fixed too - it's always scary when they have surgery. You'll be surprised how fast your girl snaps back, they're pretty amazing. She may be really sluggish/low the first several hours as the anesthesia is still in her system, but that will improve. MAKE SURE you come home w/ pain medication AND ask your vet what you should do if her pain isn't being alleviated (he may tell you to increase the dose and/or call in for an add'l med - but always have a pain plan, bc abdominal surgery hurts!). Mine never bothered their stitches, so we didn't need a cone collar or a onesie, but I'd def have a onesie on hand just in case. Keep us posted and let us know how it goes, and try not to worry too much.

YT 2000 Club Member | Welcome! We all know how nerve racking surgery of any kind can be for our babies! Just leaving them in a strange place is enough, let alone having them put under for a procedure. We totally understand! I pray that all goes well and look forward to pictures when she is feeling better!
