Exclamation Pancreatitis

After what I have seen with DH I felt I was justified in posting this. Long story short, I have spent the last week watching DH suffer with pancreatitis. He had terrible pain, vomited so much it was unreal, and spent a week in the hospital to recover getting IV fluids and antibiotics. He said it was the worst pain he had ever experienced. And it's not over yet.

Why am I posting it here? Well Yorkies get pancreatitis too. So the next time you want to give your pup non allowable foods, remember that pancreatitis could happen. They will suffer terribly from it. So please please remember this post the next time you have the urge to give table scraps to your pup.

Eloquently stated and right on point. Hoping Kevin and anyone with pancreatitis, be they two- or four-legged, gets the correct, rapid treatment this serious disease calls for and no one slipping them table scraps because "it's a dog - they eat anything!" and the poor dog suffering the consequences.

You are so right and so sorry about your husband! I hope he starts to feel better very soon.

My Chanel had a mild case - from bits of table food when she was young - since THAT vet visit she has never had anything but tiny tiny bits of cheese and a little boiled chicken as a treat each night - times that by 4 dogs now - and I'm always making and chopping/freezing their chicken bags - they tell me to get it and FEED them at 5pm every day -

When I do the chicken for humans and the girls and freeze it - My bags are labeled with a sharpie - SERVANTS for us - NINNIES for them - cause they act like total ninnies when we leave or come home.

I will pray for your husband and you too....I watched someone suffer like that and you feel so scared and helpless - .

You are so right. Thanks for posting ! I always get asked to you give him any scraps. I say no nothing ! And please do not give him anything but the food and treats I personally bring for him. I have one person says but one piece won't hurt him. I tell them you want to pay for a vet bill? . . . No . . Then do not give him anything but his own food.

Serious is the key word here! The pancreas is a silent operator that you don't think about. However, once it has problems it become a serious situation.

DH used to slip Rosie food. We had a serious vet visit which made a believer out of me. A not so serious one, and he started to believe me. I now have chicken pieces and green beans ready for him to give them when they beg. After this, he now knows how it feels. He has promised he will never feed my dogs again. Lol.

I home cook for my girls. There food dominates our freezer. Haha. But I really need to start labeling my food this way!

Excellent message and really drives home the point.

Your poor husband, having to go through this.

I am surprised, and relieved, that visitors (mainly my brothers, SIL and nephews) never wanted to feed my boys anything. My older brother is naughty and gives his Cocker Spaniel fatty pieces of beef when he cooks. I will share your message with him.

The only problem I have with dad is that he drops things. He dropped a potato chip and Max scooped it up. He had a bit of a belly ache that night. Very thankful it wasn't worse.

I have a relative that suffers from pancreatitis. It is because of alcohol. It is a horrible condition. He will have to go through treatment or eventually it will kill him and it will be a painful death. Gallstones is another thing that can cause pancreatitis.

I do hope your husband gets better soon.

Sometimes it takes a knock on the head for some people to get it. My son used to make fun of me for my vigilance at meal time with my pups. He changed his whole attitude when one of their pups died from pancreatitis. (Some was due to the horrible vet at the EC, but the pup probably got it from some type of food she got into because they never took it that serious.) It was a tragic lesson.

DH got diagnosed on Dec 31st with this. As of today, he is STILL having pain from it. He can talk and tell us he has pain. Our pups can't! After seeing him go through this I wouldn't want anyone to have to suffer.

Yes they told us the top two reasons are alcohol and gallstones. He is having his gallbladder removed in a few weeks. So we hope he will see relief soon! He said it was the worse pain he had ever had.

My X died from pancreatitis. He was young and it was alcohol induced.

My pup has had mild pancreatitis, scarring in the liver and has sludge in his gall bladder and he has Irritable Bowel. I thought he was having a stroke or seizures or some kind of neurological issue, but the way he was acting may have been caused by him having pain abdominal pain and cramping.

I am very careful with what I feed my pups these days. They eat veggies and meat that's boiled and unseasoned.....and they eat the same brand of dog food every day. I also limit their doggie treats and don't overdo anything.

Because these guys are so little, it really doesn't take that much to upset their tummy's.

Thank you for sharing this. I am hoping this thread will stress how serious this really is!
