| Please help!! Just rescued Hey Everyone! I know I have not posted very often, but I am definitely a daily lurker I have a 18 month old Female Shorkie, Eva.. who I've had since she was a puppy. This weekend, we just adopted a rescue Yorkie, male who is also 18 months. They come from very different worlds. She is spoiled, pampered, only knows love... and unfortunately the Yorkie (Buddy) has been abused. He already loves & trusts me and my Fiance. He is so sweet, he loves to cuddle, is potty trained, and so sweet. However, i'm having some trouble with him & Eva getting along all of the time. Currently when we're gone he is in a seperate room in a crate, and Eva is in her puppy room with the door shut (full size room full of toys, etc where she stays everyday). I wanted SO badly to have them both in the puppy room together alone but there is no way yet. Buddy is not used to other dogs due to his situation, and Eva will try to play with him by barking, or batting him with her paw, and I think he sees it as a threat and starts to growl, then she growls, they sometimes try to snap, etc. The weird thing is, they both sleep in our bed all night and do not bother each other. And the fighting only happens a couple times a day- otherwise they are fine together. Do you think they just need time to adjust?? Any suggestions or stories from when any of you added a second Yorkie and taught them to bond?? I really need some hope! Thank you so much Katie

| it's not even a week, it's will take longer than that but it sounds like it is really going well, so just keep doing what you are doing and little by little more exposure will. I am not an expert but what about putting the crate in the doggie room and perhaps Eva's bed next to the crate, this would give them the felling of being near each other a lot but safely. My friend just had a new kitten spayed and that is what she did, she kept the kitten in a crate and now her older cat has gotten closer to the crate and it has seemed to help. But again I am no expert just thinking aloud. That's for taking in the little yorkie, you did a very nice thing

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I agree one week is early days yet. Walking them together is a wonderfull bonding tool, and you can easily correct any play that gets out of hand. Just give it another week or two and hopefully you will see a positive difference.

Has anyone experienced any behavior like this when they brought home a new dog?

Again, neither one was a rescue, so the situations aren't the same, but I think they will come to love each other. | |

Also you might be surprised to find out that when you are gone that even though your girl has run of a large room and toys she most likely just sleeps and rests in one place. Even when I am out and my husband is home working on a project just about all Lola's play activity stops and she sleeps in a bed just waiting for me to come home. so that's why I though perhaps side by side will get them use to each other quicker.
