| Cousin afraid of my yorkie? My 14 year old cousin is terrified of dogs and she came to visit for the holidays and is staying by our house. She's been here for a week and refuses to see Mickey (my puppy 😄. And when she did see him, she started to cry like a kid. I don't know what to do or how to show her Mickey won't bite or attack her. Any advice? |

|
Show her pictures instead.... she's got issues that you can not fix.
I wouldnt subject my puppy to that emotional drama....it isnt that important that your 14 year old cousin appreciates your puppy....she is just visiting, not living there, right? |

| I wouldn't push it. Dogs feed off of peoples energy and if your cousin is scared and upset and nervous your dog knows it and might react in a weird way you don't expect. Also, it will stress out your dog and your cousin and that's not good for anyone! |

| I agree that I wouldn't subject my dog to this situation for fear of what it would do to my dog. It could create a training nightmare. At the same time, I understand your cousin's fear. I used to be fearful of little dogs, although not to the point of crying. Now I am fearful of many big dogs. I have been bitten by loose dogs and it was very scary. After I got Max and went through the puppy teething stage, being nipped by a little dog doesn't scare me. I would recommend to your cousin and her parents that she find someone to work with, a trainer, to help her overcome her fear. She should be able to find someone who will do it for free. One of my neighbors isn't a professional dog trainer, but she has the skills of one and she has a very laid back dog.

| Thanks for all the help. My cousin likes Mickey, She's just scared hell bite her. Yesterday she was playing with him through the glass kitchen door, and Mickey was wagging his tail all happy to see her. Even she was smiling. I don't think I'll push it farther than that. Thank you. |

| Your cousin is exhibiting a "phobia." It is an unrealistic fear of a person, creature, or object. She needs professional help if she is not just being dramatic. |
