| Gizmo is getting neutered on Monday So my little boy is getting neutered on Monday, as well as having a couple baby teeth pulled and his microchip. I was going to get one of the kiss-e collars for him, but my husband took him thurs. for his pre-check up appt. before getting him fixed, and scheduled it while he was there. I had his go to petsmart and petco to try to find something similar, as well as getting some newborn size onsies for him. MY husband came back with two different types of protection for his stitches and I'm wondering if anyone has used either of them before, and how they worked. The first one is an inflatable ring collar called the pro collar premium protection collar and the second is a soft nylon cone called the pro collar soft nylon cone. I'm wondering which of these would work best. They are both very soft and look like they will work. Not sure if I will be using the onsies much, because he's a constant eater, drinker, pooper and pee'er lol. I was thinking of cutting out the rear end of the onsie and where hs peepee is so he can go potty with the onsie on. Has anyone with a male pup ever used a onsie like this before, and how did they work? I can't believe it, the little 1lb 4oz pup I rescued is now 5.2 lbs !!!!! The vet was so excited for his weight and all over health. The one problem we did find though is he has a luxated patella on his right rear leg, though its not causing limping, it has popped out probably 5 times in the 4.5 months I've had him, and I've massaged it right back, and he's better within a few seconds. The vet said its a very mild grade 1, and that he could very easily grow out of it as he's still a puppy. I hope he does so he never has to have surgery for it. Anyways I got way off track lol, so has anyone used either one of these types of collars for protection on a male puppy after fixing and how did they work? What about cutting out the holes on the onsies to allow him to potty with it on? Also how long does he need to have the incision protected? Thanks in advance for any and all advice, it is greatly appreciated :-) Gizmo thanks you all too :-) |

| I think the soft cone will be better, they can still drink & eat if they want to. W/the blow up style, they can't reach the bowl bc of the inflation between them. It's great for grooming tho! We use it for kitty cats. I never put onesies on my guys...but they never licked the incision. It was done so well & the suture was inside & dissolvable. I had a hard time keeping Momo calm, he was running around & jumping the next morning! I had to carry him around. How old is Gizmo now? All the threads going on in YT about waiting til the growth plates close is very true. Momo also had grade 1 on 1 of his knee & he didn't get neutered til he was a year old. Not by choice, but he had an obstruction from eating a queen palm tree fruit along w/the seed. He had to have 2 colonoscopies & the surgery to remove the seed & he went under 3 x's. He was 7 months old, so I wanted to wait to put him under again. Now when the vet checks his knee, it doesn't budge. I also gave him cosequin for about 2 years.

| Sammy had to have a bump removed asap so we didn't have time to get him a kiss-e collar and my mom bought one from the store and even though it looked the similar it was to long and way to heavy he was miserable so he borrowed Callie's kiss-e collar and it was a huge difference I would push his neuter a little so you can get a kiss-e collar it is one of a kind and makes a huge difference for him. I would also have the vet check and make sure his growth plates are closed before neutering.

| He's 7 months old, the vet said by feeling, his bones felt solid and that he was ready. He's a very stout boxy style yorkie with lots of muscle. He looks like a little body builder :-) |

| Because we live in a very busy beach community, and are always outside playing at dog parks and such, and there are so many dogs in my neighborhood, it makes me feel much safer to be responsible and have him fixed, just in case we come into contact with someone who may not be so responsible with their own dog at the park. Also he's started marking really badly, so we also want to curb this behavior as well. |

| Never tried either type of collar, the onesies worked great for gina, I only fastened one snap, and did it to the side of her tail, and had them her the wrong way for a baby to wear them. Good luck on Monday, and I hope he does frow out of the LP. Keep us up to date please. Cheers Quad & Gina

| Wow! I can't believe how fast time flies! It is amazing that Gizmo is already 7 months old Good luck with the neuter. Huey was a terrible marker, too. After the neuter, he now only marks every 2nd or 3rd mailbox on our walks instead of every single one He still can't be trusted in other houses and I have to put a belly band on him whenever we visit anyone, especially if that person has a dog. I know we didn't have a cone of shame after his surgery and I really think we didn't do anything at all to keep him away from his incision. Like Jenny said about Momo, his incision was tight with internal sutures & I really think he paid no attention to it at all.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Good luck with the surgery. I can not believe he is 7 months old already. Time flys lol Galen did not wear the cone of shame. The vet told me if he starts to lick it give them a call but he was good. Sending good thoughts for a quick and speedy recovery too

| Both Princess & Turbo got spayed & neutered @ 6 months old. I wanted to wait til they were 8 months, but the lady taking care of them @ the time didn't want to take the chance...just in case, since they're brother & sister. Both their knees are fine. Hope all goes well w/Gizmo's neuter!

| Well Gizmo is home and he's not a happy camper :-( luckily he's more mad at my husband then me because my husband was the one that took him to te vet, and I went to pick him up aka rescue him :-) He's a bit snippy right now due to pain my poor baby :-( he got fixed, had 5 baby teeth pulled, and 2 of them were baby canines, and he got his microchip. He bit my husband while we were putting a onsie on him, as he hated the collar and was going crazy with the collar on. So we cut a peepee hole in the onsie and just snapped one snap on his back. I was so surprised, the newborn onsies barely fit him. I was actually happy about that considering he only weighed 1 lb 4 Ozs when I rescued him in his coma almost dead. The vet said when we picked him up that his growth plates were closed and that he is pretty much full grown at this point, which he is varying between 5.2 and 5.5 lbs :-) so so glad he did not end up being a micro like those sick people tried to make him. They gave us enough pain med for 3 days as well as antibiotics for 3 days. He did really well and is just napping right now, the only thing of anything negative is he is sooooo mad at my husband lol, I'm just glad he's giving me kisses :-) Last edited by Sunnydayz; 12-30-2013 at 05:56 PM. |

| Poor Gizmo. I'm glad the big day is over and that he is home. He should feel much better in the morning. Make sure you keep him from jumping or trying to run too fast. Max tried to jump and had a little bruising. I carried him on his walks for almost 2 weeks. Best wishes for Gizmo.

| Yea right now he's in his xpen with his blankie and snuggle sack. I had him out with me in my lap and he almost tried to jump down. That scared me enough to put him where he's comfy in there and safe. I'm gonna make a bed for myself on the floor and sleep there where he can see me. He's still quite woozy right now :-( |

| Oh I also forgot to add that they used glue instead of stitches. His incision appears to be less than 1/2" |
