YT Addict | My baby ate chocolate! I definitely went through a scary experience Christmas night. We had our girls with us earlier that day and then we put them in their new pen we got for the afternoon. Late that night when we got home, we discovered that Lilly Anne had gotten out of the pen and had hopped up on the chair in our dining room and got down two of those small reeses chocolate things that are wrapped in tinfoil. I called the vet immediately when I found out and he said as long as she was acting okay that night to just keep an eye out on her and bring her in the next day. She acted fine all night and when we got up that next morning we saw where she had pooped out the tinfoil wrappers. She is fine now and thankfully the chocolate didn't seem to affect her at all besides the fact that she was bouncing all over the walls from a sugar high! Just a reminder to make sure to put that Christmas candy way out of reach! I would have never thought she would be able to get to it, but she did and I definitely learned my lesson.

YT 2000 Club Member | Little stinker! You are so lucky that is didn't make her really sick. They are mostly peanut butter and sugar. I am so happy mine are not able to get upon our dining room chairs and beds. Teeka and Max can only jump on the couch and Tatiana can't jump onto any furniture!

YT 1000 Club Member | That's so strange... I have one (Ichabod) who has been devastated by consuming chocolate. Fortunately it wasn't enough to kill him, but he was VERY sick. But, have three others who have inadvertently eaten it, with no noticeable ill effects. Possibly the type of chocolate makes a difference...just don't know.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | There's not too much chocolate in the Reese's cups and it's milk chocolate, which isn't as bad as the dark chocolate. The bad news is once they eat chocolate, they will seek it out, so be extra careful from now on. Glad Lilly Anne is okay, and maybe you could occasionally give her a carob treat especially at Christmas! Delicious Dog Cookie Recipe with Peanut Butter & Carob Chips

Milk chocolate is not as harmful as the dark chocolate...that dark chocolate, the bitter dark baking chocolate, the simi sweet dark chocolate....these all have much more of the enzyme that is toxic to the dogs....years ago, I used to give each of my dogs a milk chocolate Hershey kiss every day....they LOVED that bed time delight and never got ill from that ONE, daily Hershey Kiss! Imagine my confusion when chocolate suddenly appeared on a toxic list for dogs years later! I researched it and found out milk chocolate does not have the toxic effects of the dark chocolate or dark cocoa powder. | |

YT Addict | Glad to know milk chocolate isn't as bad! I still worry, and hess from now on all chocolate will be far far away from any dogs reach. My dogs jump super high and i have one that can jump onto counters so now it is all locked away in the cabinet. I would never forgive myself if something happened to my girls because of a careless mistake.

| Gina got a hold of a mini snickers bar after Halloween, she never got sick, or acted strange, the only way we knew she had gotten one was because the hair around her mouth smelled like a snickers bar. Needless to say the candy is put in a much better place now, but we think it fell out of the bag when someone got a piece out of it. It's interesting what will hurt some, while others aren't affected by it. Glad she's o.k., it's scary to find these things have happened, and all you can do is wait and see. Cheers Quad & Gina

| Lilly Anne! I am very happy to hear she is okay and didn't suffer any ill effects. I can imagine how worried you were.
