| What age for first heat? Hi Everyone - and Happy New Year! I have just enrolled my 4 1/2 month old baby in PetSmart classes that run for 8 weeks. I had been planning on having her spayed in late Januray or early February. My 2 questions are when might she come into heat for the first time - and if her classes are on Thursdays could I go ahead and schedule her surgery for a Friday and expect her to be OK by the next Thursday?? Thanks! |

| heats vary in each gal some heat as early as 6 months some won't heat for a year or so, as far as recouping from the spaying I would delay any strenious activity about 2-3 weeks. She may be healed from the out side but it takes time to heal the inside. Also I would suggest before attending this class or any other have the vet give her a bordetella shot, two weeks after the surgery and repeat a month later. Once totally immunized then take her. hope this helps

| I agree...every dog is different as far as recovery time, but most vets say NO activity for at least 10 days. |
