"Gucci" aka "Crab Bait" Our little guys name is Gucci. We got him last April 28th 2013 from someone who got him from a rescue. Our understanding is he spent about 6 years in a puppy mill, a year with the rescue people, 3 years with a loving owner who due to circumstances felt it best to give Gucci to us. We brought him in for shots and an exam right away. The vet estimated his age at 10-12 years old. Real bad teeth and an infection. It took a month of antibiotics and steroids to clear up the infection. He weighed 4.6 pounds. Gucci aka Crab Bait has brought us much joy and comfort!

We try to return the favor! That was my first post here at YT. I hope to learn a little about his care, care that is specific to yorkies. We realize that with his advanced age there will be some challenges along the way fairly soon... but... he seems very worth our effort. Already I have discovered he is very well behaved in comparison to other yorkies. He doesn't bark except when he wants off the bed or he wants his Mamas attention, even then it is a subtle "yip" rather than a loud "YAP". He rarely has an accident in the house, it happened a few times as we adjusted to his needs and he to ours. We don't use a piddle pad, we escort him outside. Nearly constant supervision with a very rare stay in the bathroom if both of us are away from the house. He loves people and other dogs! One exception, my brother gave him an excessive swat when Gucci jumped on him on a visit. My brother received an ear full immediately from us. Gucci didn't forgive him for 6 months! LOL

Robyn and I have settled in to a routine with Gucci. She focuses on his nutrition while I focus on his exercise. We both give him lots of love and attention. It took a long time to figure out what he wanted to eat. Brand after brand, type after type, it was an exhaustive search. I don't want to seem like an advertiser so I won't post the brand but it is "senior, toy breed, chicken, rice and oatmeal, dry dog food. He does, of course, have daily helpings of real chicken, turkey or beef, cheese sometimes. NEVER pork... We originally tried those premade wet foods in the little containers in addition to his dry food. He liked a couple types for a short time but eventually more went to waste than he would eat... He preferred his dry over any pre made wet. He won't eat cooked eggs either.

It's taking a long time for my comments to be added to this thread, so, it's off for our 3 mile walk. Almost daily now, a combination of sidewalks, grass and trails through a local wooded park. I hope to share what we've learned about our little guy and learn more about what we should be doing as time goes on. Thanks!

A couple of my comments, postings, were submitted and it looked like accepted awaiting moderator review. It's been at least an hour... maybe 2.. they haven't posted so I'm assuming they have been lost to cyber space. Those comments had additional info on Gucci.... a disappointing start here... it took time to write it, I doubt I'll be able to duplicate it... I guess I was overly excited about finding such a forum. I'll try again later.... | |
