Donating YT 11K Club Member | Smelly Yorkie! Now they usually never have an overwhelming odor, just sometimes around their eyes where they get the tears(or idk what they're called) but lately I've noticed teddy omits a smell from his back, like after going outside or wearing a jacket. If i hold him or pet him i can smell it. I hear dogs don't sweat, so idk what it is. I call it 'boy' smell LOL. My question is has anyone had this problem and what shampoo do you use? I never noticed it when he was younger, he's 7 now. And I bathe him once a week..

| Thank you so much! And good luck with your problem, my yorkie starts to stink fast but a shower fixes that right up. Any decent shampoo will work. |

| I use a shampoo/conditioner spritz called "GloCoat". I absolutely love the scent too! Do you wipe them down after they've been outside? Also, I thought I read that it's not good to bathe them too often b/c it'll dry out their skin? I bathe my two about once a month. But I wipe them down and spritz them every time we come back inside which is about twice a day. As for the tear... I'd recommend cleaning her eyes with baby water. I use a brand called Nursery water (floride free). Zoey always has tear stains and it caused an accute eye infection when she was a pup. It also made her face little stinky. But after combing out the area with flea comb and wiping them daily, the stinkiness is gone and she haven't had any issues. |

| I agree that they eyes should be cleaned with either distilled water or a commercial dog eye cleaning pad daily. It could be your guy is having issues with his anal glands. It could be when he goes outside that his glands get partially opened. It is a nasty smell and there is a residue odor. You can have your vet express them and show you how to do it properly if it is a continued issue. Sometimes groomers do it but I would not let a groomer do it unless they are highly recommended and have years of experience in their own successful business. If it is a true body odor I would consider looking into what is in his food and possibly changing to something else. It's great to use a good all natural shampoo and conditioner on them weekly but if you are still having odor issues and it's not the ears, eyes, teeth, or anal glands I would consider his diet. |
