| Male vs Female When choosing your puppy, were you looking for a certain gender? If so, which and why. I've heard that males bond closer to female owners and vice versa. Thoughts? |

| This is going to sound so stupid, but it's the honest reason why I chose a male dog: I volunteered for the spcaLA for 2-3 years before heading off to a university. In that time I noticed a pattern, all the female small dogs were adopted first and all the sweet boys were left behind. I got to see the boys week after week while the girls just didn't last at the shelter. All the adoptable boys were so cute, mellow, playful, and I couldn't understand why nobody wanted them. That's when I decided that I wanted a boy. I wanted to give a boy a chance at having a loving home too. I also see a lot more requests for female puppies on YT, which continued the pattern I saw at the shelter. That just meant more boys for me to choose from! Now that I have my Kaji boy at home, I'm as smitten with him as he is with me. He loves to cuddle, and wants to be with me always. In fact, he's curled up on my chest as I type this. If I ever get a second dog, you better believe it will be another boy. I'm sure no 2 dogs are identical, and their personalities will play a big role as to whether they're cuddle bugs or not.

| Answer: Either can be perfect for you. I think gender differences become unimportant when Yorkies are spayed or neutered. Lovability is more a personality thing, than a gender thing. A good breeder will really try to match what you want, with the right Yorkie for you. The breeder will know each puppy’s personality and potential. My boys are super loving, my girls are more demanding of attention but not more affectionate.

| I always had more boy dogs growing up w/o even choosing it was just the one who's personality stuck best. But I feel like most people chose girls because of the assumption that a male dog is more difficult to train, to potty train, marking, aggressiveness, more territorial, etc. But I feel for the most part all of those varies by the dog and how the owner trains/treats/raises the dog and females can do those same thing. And after neuter/spaying very most of this stuff isn't even a problem.

| I originally wanted a girl so I can dress her up. But now that I have my Dooney, he is the sweetest thing. I have a girl chihuahua and she's moody and nippy. I don't know if it's the breed or gender. I do eventually want a girl yorkie, but that's going to be a long time from now. My boy is very bonded to me...he is playful and loves everyone in the household but he is mostly by my side.....good luck in your choice, either way you will love your baby yorkie!

| The main reason I wanted a girl is because all boy's I've ever had peed on everything. I hated it. If they would always squat I would love to have a boy but.... My hubby also wanted a girl for the same reason.

| I just wanted a girl no certain reason I don't think. My baby Callie could not be more attached to me she is ALWAYS at my feet, following me around, gets upset if I'm upset, and so on. She also shuts down completely when I am gone even though she is never left alone. I do notice with every female we have had over the years mostly mixes they have a bit of attitude and I love it I think it depends on the dog not there gender.

| I don't feel that gender affects bonding. Bonding is created by way humans treat the pup, who feeds it, plays with it, cuddles it and cares for it. Both males and females can give unconditional love. That being said, I chose 4 females, not wanting a leg lifting pee shooter, haha; although my male mini Schnauzer was the most loyal loving boy I ever knew. Concentrate on picking a good breeder first, and a healthy pup, have the pup neutered or spayed, and you will have a best friend for life. Good luck.

YT 1000 Club Member | I wanted a girl basically because that's all I've ever had as pets....plus I wanted to dress her up lol. I ended up getting a boy though because of his personality and he's absolutely gorgeous . Luckily my breeder is having another litter in February so I may get my girl then . |

| That's my reason for choosing a girl. They are much less messy when they pee. |

| I wanted a girl, mostly because if they have an accident it's much easier to find. Also, the clothes are cuter. Lola is very attached to my family and I, she's almost always with one of us. I've had 4 girls and 1 boy, and my mom & grandmom had 3 girls and 1 boy before I was born. The girls have been just as loving and attached as the boys. |
