| Kennel Cough or Trachea I broke my own rule and bought another cutie! Got him from local pet store - watched him for a week saw no concerns. I got him home on Friday and notice a bit of a cough. I made an appointment right away with my vet. She told me kennel cough. Now I just need to hear info from others who have gone through this. My concern is does he have a collapsed trachea? The vet did push on the trachea and he did not cough. I have noticed he coughs a bit at night in the cage and he is worse first thing in the morning and then seems to get better within an hour. He is on antibiotics and cough meds as needed. I have two other yorkies - 4 years and 8 years - never had this issue. Just concerned. Would love to hear from others! |

| Sounds like kennel cough which can be normal in puppy mill pups. Please please in the future do not buy puppies from pet stores they come from puppy mills and normally are sick and have genetic illnesses. Buying them also keeps the puppy mill in business and treating there breedings dog EXTREMELY bad.

| I agree I should not have bought him at a pet store. I felt so badly for him - and I can give him a good home. I just am concerned that it might be his trachea then I will have to return him. Does anyone have experience with a trachea issue? I can not find anywhere online where I can find differences. |

| My vet said unless there having an actual treachea collapse at the time of the X-ray that the X-ray won't show it. She also said it would have to be a "moving" X-ray. Both yorkies in my life have ct and when pushed on the trachea they cough. I would wait until the kennel cough is gone until checking for ct.

| I appreciate all the advice. After being up all night with non stop coughing and vomiting from my puppy. I have a health warranty and I am going to return him today and get my $1100 back. Shame on me for buying at a pet store. |

| Update: up all night with Louie the kennel cough and infection became much worse. I went to the vet first thing this morning and he has bad upper respiratory infection, kennel cough and gardsio ( I spelled it wrong ). I returned him today to the pet store and they are sending him to the local animal hospital to be treated. I have the option of my money back or Louie when he is well. I am so upset at this time that I can not make a decision. Part of me wants him back the other part does not - the manager was nice about it she didn't seem surprised so I believe this is an everyday occurrence. My gut tells me take your money back and run but my husband's heart is saying otherwise! They tell me a week and I have two yorkies at home I am treating for the parasite and have to wait and see if they get kennel cough! I don't think a week is long enough. Thanks for listening.... |

| i would suggest clearing out the kc and then going back for a ct check to be sure..as mine had kc when she came to me but after it fully cleared up she was then diagnosed with ct which at this time we only treat with watched playtime and ruff housing activities. I also did find the pellet stove dries the air out and our humidifier died, i had to get a new one as it was causing her to cough more than her usual episodes. wishing you the best and hoping it is not ct.
