| Help to manage pain Good evening and happy thanksgiving eve everyone my Bentley has been limping on his right front leg and I didn't really pay it no mind because he's always trying to get my attention. Well today it's gotten worse. He cries when he puts weight on it, won't go out side to potty and has had a decrease in his appetite. I called our vet and they can't get him in until fri and I don't think we could afford the emergency, is there anything I could give him over thr counter? I just want to help him with pain until the swelling goes down. I tried putting ice on it but he didn't leave it there very long. Please help!! I don't like to see my baby in pain Ps...he's almost 7lbs

| I would be concerned about treating pain until I was certain of the cause. The only NSAIDS I know that are approved for small dogs are rx only. If you feel your dog is in enough pain that he needs medication, then that should be considered a medical emergency and you should see the emergency vet. I understand that is very expensive, especially on a holiday, but this is your furbaby and unlike a child, they can't say where they hurt, so you have to be even more proactive with going to the vet because of that.

| Isnt there doggie asprin or herbal pain stuff at the pet store?? Do u have a pet supplies plus or even a petco or petsmart U may wanna try heat instead of ice since these little guys get cold easy. I wouldn't make it too hot though....just a warm compress. U may wanna keep your pup confined to a crate with minimal movement. Going to vet would be best.... | I would get him to the vet. You don't want to give him anything that will hurt him.

| Aspirin is not recommended anymore. He needs to get to the vet. Would you sit around and wait until Friday if you where limping and in a lot of pain?

| Aspirin can cause internal bleeding, so not good unless your vet recommends it and you know exactly what the problem is. Most vets see emergencies during normal business hours. This being a holiday, you'll have to go to an ER, at least for an xray and pain meds. You can opt to have him treated at your regular vet, ie: the ER Vet can patch him up and make him comfortable and then have your vet see him and make the decisions like if surgery is needed. My guesstimate would be $200 - $300 at the ER, but you could call and discuss their charges for the Office visit and xrays. (usual to take 2 views)

| I hope you got him to the vet. Did you at the pads of his feet and see if anything could be stuck in the pad? We have had acorns in the front yard and Amy stepped on one and a tiny tiny piece was between her toes and she was limping. Found it and used tweezers and got it out and put some peroxide on it and she was fine. |

| Did you end up taking the baby to the vet? Dogs are very good at hiding pain as an instinct. Show pain, and you show you are weak. So for a dog to show pain, it must really hurt a lot.
