| Cock Eyed Yorkies? Is the cock eyed look on yorkies or other breeds always related to hydrocephalus ? Is it something a pup grows put of? Is there seeing fine? I'm curious. Is a cock eyed dog a breeder should avoid breeding? There's a puppy I'm looking at and in the picture it's eyes looks cocked. Thanks. |

| I don't think you can tell by a picture only, as a dog that is scared etc. might also be looking down and to the side. However, if you see the dog in person eyes are like that all the time, there is reason for concern. This website has a lot of info on the disorder, and all the other symptoms (but also states that sometimes no symptoms are seem). Hydrocephalus in Dogs | Symptoms and Signs

| I plan on asking the breeder. In one of the available sibling pups the eyes are cocked (go outward/sides) I am waiting on a current forward facing photo as the pictures I've seen of the other puppy (the one I'm more interested in) has been side photos and the pup was not looking forward, so I am uncertain if she too has cock eyes or a slower eye. The sires eyes are cocked. I read the article (thank you) and I want a healthy puppy. I guess what I'm trying to ask is having cocked eyes possible without having hydrocephalus ? I also wanted to know if cock eyed ness fixes itself (which I doubt.) I will ask the breeder but getting additional info from the forum is greatly appreciated. |

| Could it be this? Amblyopia in Puppies | Dog Care - The Daily Puppy I don't know why the breeder is using a stud w/cock eyes...something that you don't necessarily want to breed but something you want to breed out. Do they have flat noses/ short snouts?

Also what kind of health guarantee does this breeder offer, and what does she have to say about the eyes? Are their previous litters from this breeding pair? I understand your concern, because a defect that is more "cosmetic" is very different from one that indicates a horrific genetic disease.

| Thanks all. I'm waiting for the breeders response. I feel it most likely isn't hydrocephalus and the other that was mentioned. The noses on the pups aren't really short. I've seen shorter with straight eyes. The eyes are a bit wider set than I've seen but nothing outrageous like something strange you would see in visible bad breeding. I've seen some sad puppies bred to be like a pound that just look sick. I haven't asked yet about their contract but I at least know I want at least one year health guarantee. |

| Could you post a picture of what your mean? Most hydro babies I have seen have huge bulging eyes. not sure if that is what you mean. Also one eye will sometimes appear larger than the other.

| I'm not sure if I could. The picture is on the breeders site so if someone tells me if it's okay, then I will post a link. Or just show a pic of the pup to not "out" the breeder. |

| If you mean ok with YT there is no rule against posting a link to her site. It would be easier if we could see pictures.

| I have often heard the eyes referred to as "setting sun" eyes, cast downward and out.
