| How old and how big is your puppy? I love the walk through gates but small puppies are able to squeeze through the bars in some of them. The x-pen is nice and perhaps more versatile. Some puppies and adults are able to climb out or jump an x-pen.

| My laundry room has a gate in front of the door, our pup squeezed right thru it. I know have a playyard in there for him. So, I vote for playpen or play yard. Make sure you get one he won't be able to climb later on. Another reason for the pen, they can chew on anything in the room if they are left to roam free.

| If you have room the pen is safer. But I got two Amazon.com: Richell Wood One-Touch Pet Gate,... and a large cage. So Moki could roam the roam with me home. I blocked him in my tv room. Then when I left he would go into the cage. The cage stays open and his food, bed and water are still there. Never has full run of the house when nobody is home. He is ~18mo. Potty trained. Its what will work best for you. The pen is safes if use while not home and you have a spot. The gate has less clutter just puppy safe the area but they can chew on walls. |

| Yeh, depends on how your house is set up AND the dog I got this....Amazon.com: Richell Expandable Pet Pen Medium... ( oh my how do you highlight , copy and paste) Anyway it's an expandable pen you can have bed , pee area AND feed area all enclosed. But I thougt well she needs a PLAY area too , so one end does open for that and we put x pen up to that. ( Zoey is tiny so she doesn't climb or try to get out she just sits there and looks at ya like ....well I want out) Needless to say she didn't PLAY in that area , she slept. Even if we were gone 6 hours.....so back to the expandable unit and since she is now almost 6 months she has the run of that room , playroom, ( when we are home)and does well on pads and bell to go out. In meantime be diligent on pee training it does pay off, but they need to "mature" into it....we put xpen outside too for confined area to pee. |

I also bought the top for the richell xpen for when I'm not home, so he can't learn to climb out. I have found Gizmo to be an excellent climber :-) so this xpen, along with the top you can put on if they are left alone for a while was exactly perfect for me :-) | |
