| Lola went into heat, our Halloween plans are ruined I was going to get her spayed in the beginning of November. I guess I'll wait about 4 months now, so it's done before the second heat. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I haven't had any plans for the past few years. I made Lola a costume and I was going to take her to as many things as possible. I'm so proud of her costume and was very excited to show it off. Going out and getting attention is Lola's favorite thing. I'll only be able to enter internet contests now. I'm really not looking forward to keeping her in the house for a few weeks, she gets cabin fever and drives me crazy. |

| Do you have a backyard she can go out in? At least she would be able to get some exercise on a leash if you do. If you have a lot of stray dogs around it might not be a good idea because the scent would attract male dogs to your home. If you live in an area where dogs are kept under control then take her out back to play if you can. Well, maybe the costume will still fit her next year. Her safety is most important. Are you going to post a picture here? |

| Could you get her some little panties to wear to help prevent issues?

The costume will still fit next year, I made it so I can take it out. I'll post pictures after I find a good way to pose her. | |

| I'm sorry for your disappointment. You are a good mom for putting her safety first. There are many unaltered males out there, and the risk would be high.

| I apologize if the panties suggestion was wrong ... I am out of my element when it comes to females in heat because I had Nilla spayed right at 6 months. I had heard of panties and diapers, but wasn't sure if they would work well for that purpose. I was hoping to find a way to show off your fancy work and have a fun time out!

| This will not keep an intact male from breeding with her!

| I misread the panties suggestion as a way to prevent messes. I just want to make it clear I know they won't protect her. I can't risk taking her to pet stores. My neighbors female beagle jumped on me one time when I was bringing Lola into my house and it was very scary. Luckily she's friendly, if she weren't she definatly could have hurt both of us. Do you think it'll be ok to take her to stores other than pet stores? Like the craft store? I know they're typically in heat for 21 days, other than counting days how can I tell when it's over? |

| You are smart to keep her inside with you. Our little Vivi was a stray and we looked everywhere for her owners. After we figured out that we were not going to find them, we made an appointment to have her spayed. On the very day of her appointment, she went into heat (which I knew nothing about before then) and had to postpone the surgery, as you have to do now. I think your Halloween is not going to be ruined, just different. Lola can still wear her costume in your house. Have some friends over and hand out candy together! |

| Allie is going into heat. I won't even let her and the boys out to potty at the same time! I separated her from the boys, and then tripped over the fence/gate because I forgot lol. Let's just say it wasn't graceful and it woke up my husband and my son. She won't wear the panties, so I just put down some towels and any mess gets on those and I wash them everyday and rotate them out. I have towels I have set aside just for this purpose. (I have to wash them pretty quick too or the boys get crazy with the laundry lol)
