| Itchy puppy after flea bath I took Molly to the groomer today and inquired about a flea bath. I thought I saw a flea on her this morning before we went so I had the groomer to check to verify. Turns out she did have a couple on her. She gave her the flea bath and ever since she has been itching to death. Is this normal or is she having an allergic reaction? I give her the K9 Advantix and am due for her next treatment this Sunday. Should I give it tomorrow instead? I know I am suppose to wait a few days after bathing. At least that's what I was told. When I came home today I washed all her bedding and toys and cleaned her bedroom from top to bottom. I have cleaned everything she has had contact with. Such as my blankets cause she lies with me in my recliner. Also vacuumed what little carpet I have. Any other suggestions? |

| Benedryl might help her itching. 2mls is what my vet told me. Poor baby!

| Like Celstu1 suggested, it could be allergies and baby benedryl would help if that's the case. Have you checked her skin? Maybe the flea bath dried out her skin? I spritz my two b/c they get dry skin sometimes.. Other than that, I'd like to suggest you comb her often with a flea comb for at least couple days. Just to be sure the fleas haven't come back. Better safe then sorry. I hope she feels better soon. |

| Thank you both for the info. I just gave her a little Benadryl about 20 minutes ago. She's napping in my lap right now. I didn't notice any skin irritation tonight but she did have a dry looking spot this morning before I took her. It's the first time I have seen a dry looking area on her. I'm hoping the flea bath just has her skin irritated. I don't have a flea comb. That's something I forgot to buy for her and seeing that made me think that I should clean her brush too. I totally did not think if that today when I cleaned everything else. Pet Smart here I come. Thanks again guys. |

| Since she did have a few fleas, even though they are gone now, any bites from before the bath can cause itching for several days. The flea bath itself can be irritating and drying. It is all temporary.

| Thank you very much. I feel so sorry for her. I've never seen her scratch as much as she has this evening. I wish I'd thought about the Benadryl earlier. She could have had a little relief at least. |

| Don't feel too bad... It's a lesson learned and you'll know exactly what to do if something like this happens again. |

| So....Molly is still super itchy this morning and I found a little flea on her hind leg. Does it take a little while for these little pests to die after the flea bath or do I need to start something else with her? Poor baby. I can tell she's in misery. I read that the little fleas bite harder when they are dying. Any truth to that or has the flea bath just not worked. I think that I thought maybe once she had the bath "poof" they would all be gone. Guessing it doesn't work like that though. I kinda hate to wait till Sunday to do the Advantix but I probably shouldn't over do it. Right? |

| I don't have that problem right now, but when I did someone suggested putting diatomacious earth (food grade) on my old poodle. I powdered a bit under her pits and belly. It worked getting rid of the fleas. She may be itching because she is allergic to the bites. I wouldn't give her the flea stuff till she really needs it, you don't want her to have a chemical reaction, that would be worse than the itching.

| The flea bath only kills fleas that are on her at that moment, I don't think it prevents more fleas in the future. So the one you found on her, she might have picked up in your home. I don't know the age and weight of Molly, but just want to say to be cautious with flea treatment and meds. I wouldn't think using Advantix 2 days early would be a problem, but ask your vet what is appropriate for her size. I personally don't like the flea shampoo, and many here use instead a bath with lots of Dawn dish washing liquid (leave it on 5 min. then rinse very thoroughly). Super cleaning the home, especially daily vacuuming is very important to get them under control.
