| How often can/did you visit your puppy before they came home? I'm just curious to know how often people went and saw their little ones before they took them home. Many sound like the breeder is so far away, that they just can't visit often, and get weekly pictures, but only visit once or twice. If your breeder was close by, did/could you visit more? The breeder I believe we're going to go with literally lives a couple of streets away from us in the same development. I have this idea in my head that because she is so close, I will get to visit my baby often, but am not sure if this is allowed or common. I mean, I don't know a lot about the breeding and the puppies when they are very young/newborn. I'm not asking to go see it the day it was born or anything drastic, but am wondering if it is okay for the puppy to see you so much that early on or if they are allowed visitors at all early on? Would I be prying if I wanted to go once a week or so? I plan to ask my breeder for her exact take on this as she knows we live so close to each other, but wanted to hear some experiences with you all! |

| My breeder was about 2 hours away from me, however I could have visited Gina anytime I wanted to, if I wanted to spend 4 hours in the car. She did send weekly pictures and had a video up each week, so we could see our soon to be furbaby. If your breeder is as close as you say, then ask, if, when, and how often you could visit. If she says no you can't, and won't let you see the mother and other puppies, then I'd steer clear, and find another breeder. It never hurts to ask, and the worse they can say is no. Good luck, and I hope you get many visits before bringing your furbaby home. Cheers Quad

| My breeder (and many others that I know) won't let anyone visit the puppies until they have had their first set of shots. I got pics (at least once a week, but a lot more often the older they got) and videos though. We didn't visit until it was time to pick them up, but I felt like I already really knew them as much as we were emailing (and posting on yt and fb) back and forth. She described their personalities perfectly, and would share stories about funny and sweet things they did |

How old are they when they have their first shots? I really am clueless with all of this! Haha, but yes, I'm sure she will at least send me photos of her frequently, but I am like, if I am two blocks away, it would make sense to just go see them! Obviously I can respect not wanting the puppies to be exposed o a lot of people so early on though, and definitely do not want to impose on them during their vital time with their mommy and siblings! I was just curious what the norm was so that I don't come off like a nosy, pushy woman when I ask my breeder when she will let me see her!

| One of the good, professional breeders on YT had a bad experience with parvo that closed down her breeding program for a good while so she could decon her entire home, etc. She will not let anyone come see pups until they are fully vaccinated. I aquired my Huey from a byb-actually a friend who bred her dog-which I know now is not the right place to get a yorkie, but didn't know at the time (he was a gift). Since she wasn't a real breeder, she didn't have any rules in place and since she lived a couple of miles from where we had our weekend getaway, we got to visit every weekend (including the day after he was born) and any other time we wanted until we took him home at the ripe old age of 7 1/2 weeks -once again, ignorance is bliss...

| My breeder lives about 45 minutes from me, so I visited mine ALOT. I started visiting when they were almost 2 weeks old, and then weīd go back every week right up until we brought them home I have tons of pics holding mine from just 3 weeks old upwards. All we were asked to do for sanitary reasons is take off our shoes, wash our hands and not take our children. Itīs the norm to visit your pup/s if you want here, and it helps make the wait easier too I have had 5 yorkies (including Milo & Bella) and I visited them ALL from a very early age.I think those first weeks are precious, and by the time they came home, they were so used to being with me that the transition was easy The week before we came home with them, we took a blankie and put it in the whelping box with mother and pups, and that was what they snuggled up to once they were here at home |

I think thatīs why certain people from ceratin countries find it hard to fit in in here, because everything they do, say and think is frowned upon by those of you from the US (who are a huge majority in here) I often have to remember that. Pups always go home at 7 to 8 weeks here. They do fine, hense there is no law against it. Everyone gets to visit their pups here too.You are just asked to remove your shoes, scrub up (hands up to your elbows) and not take your kids. Thatīs why what you say in your post doesnt sound bad to me at all, yet you say it like the breeder should have been locked up P.s- This is a tiny touristic island (Majorca) where dogs arent in huge demand, people just donīt have the time.So the few breeders we do have nearly always have waiting lists. We do not have puppymills (thank god there is no reason to pump out pups like that) and as a rule, the breeders you can find are awesome and pups are raised in their homes with their kids and family etc.Of course, there are a small few that have made mistakes, but being the tiny island that this is, word gets around quickly and those are out of buisness before you know it. I just think I should remind everyone that not all of us are from the US, not all breeders who let pups go at the age of 7 to 8 weeks are crooks, letting the owners of the pups visit is not irresponsable and every breeder (no matter how amazing) always started with that first litter, so people asking about breeding their dog for the first time or advice about having a 7 week old pup should always be cut some slack They might be somewhere where that is the norm, so they wont understand why you are so upset Last edited by Ginas_babys; 09-28-2013 at 02:11 AM.

I actually had no clue about breeding prior to YT and I thought the norm was average folks breeding their pets for fun. I'm sure I am not in the minority when it comes to that school of thought.

I have been reading on here for years and I have done alot of my "yorkie rearing" the American way (which is why I am still here lol), but there are some things that make my toes curl too Not because I donīt agree with them either, but because some people are talked down to because they havent spayed their dog, or because they said they wanted to breed their bitch or because they have a puppy that others consider too young to be away from home etc. I feel sorry for those people and I always try to awnser them without just asuming they are being irresonsable, because ALOT of those people arent just ignorant, they could just be from a place where things are done very differently Thatīs all I really wanted to say
