| I think it's finally time.. I honestly miss Betsy more than I could describe, the way she'd get overly excited if you even blinked, the way she would always want cuddles, and more than anything the way she was always so happy with life. I think it's time that I look into adopting a Yorkie,.but I was wondering... Are Yorkies, usually the lovable hyperactive little zoomie that Betsy was? Are they usually always positive in life? |

| I can only answer for the ones I've had. Always positive, wanting to please. Both have had the "zoomies." Not always hyper.

| Well, hello, stranger. Welcome back! Huey is the only yorkie I have had, and he is very cuddly but on his own terms. He is a very happy guy who is always ready to play and when he gets the zoomies, he is hilarious to watch running his "zoomie path" through the house. He is a good sleeper, but also likes to quietly play with his toys in the middle of the night, because we will awaken to the entire contents of his toy box in the bed with us. He also is quite skittish at times and looks like a flea the way he hops around to avoid being caught, like when he hears the water running in the tub or when he sees a hairbrush coming his way I think that a yorkie, like any other living being, is gonna be somewhat shaped by his/her early life experiences, and each has a distinct personality. Looking forward to hearing updates on your search!

YT 1000 Club Member | I think you'll find that most Yorkie puppies are zoomey and cuddly and that can linger into adulthood. It will depend greatly on what reaction you have to any activity. They (Yorkies) want to be the Dog YOU want them to be. Sounds like you may not have had a Yorkie before... If that's true, then just be prepared for some very subtle surprises. Surprises...umm, maybe I should have said "amazement". The Yorkshire is unique within the K9 world... Many judge intelligence on how many tricks a Dog can do, or how well they do agility. Some Yorkies do well at those, but one need to look beyond the physical functions, and realize that you don't just have a little actor, but a genuine companion, who will grow to understand YOU. The terms intuition and clairvoyance come to mind, when I think of the individual unique personalities of our little guys. I've had/raised Dogs of many breeds for over 60 years now, and I have yet to have any, which even got close to matching. If you're looking just for a wiggly furball, then get anything you want, but... If you're looking for a relationship, get a Yorkie.

| Yeah, I hated that you had to rehome Betsy because your sheltie? broke his leg. I wondered how long it was gonna take for you to finally get another. I knew you had been bitten by the yorkie bug...good luck in your search!

| My 5 month old puppy is always hyper when he meets other dogs and runs lap in the house sometimes :P He is little and I can take him around in my purse :P He is always loving and follows us around all the time! He wants to play tug and fetch a lot and will paw on you to tell you he wants to play. He sleeps with us and he enjoys his belly rub every morning

| Gosh, I was feeling so badly for your loss of Betsy. But wait, did you give her away because a different dog of yours got a broken leg? Maybe a Yorkie is not for you..... Maybe I've got it all wrong?

If my original dog had not broken his leg, I would have kept her, the problem I find with that statement, is it's too black, and white... I wasn't set up financially to handle the care of three dogs when she had found us, well not in the sense of medical care should they all need to go to the vet, this was shown to be true when Connor had to have a titanium piece put into his leg, the cost of that alone was most of our savings. So I had found a home for the foster, I had taken in and things were going better, but the financial aspect had me shaken up quite a bit, and realized that Betsy deserved a home that could afford all of the things we were unable to provide for her should she need medical attention, and you are right I didn't show enough responsibility to handle a Yorkie back then, I didn't even know that the vet took payment plans. Another concern was the possibility that she could have hurt Connors leg more, but I think that was my way of coping with the fact that I was not good enough.. It has been a few months, and my ex and I have broken up, she took Connor and I have saved up enough money that I feel comfortable to really be able to take care of any vet bills that may arise, especially after the fact that the vet takes payments. | |

| Scooter is a real zoomie and his zest for life is amazing. He's always in a good mood and loves to be held. He hops on my lap and puts his tiny head on my chest and just stares into my eyes. He's got that down pat and I can't resist it at all.

I have always heard that Jack Russell Terriers are very hyper, upbeat and known to be full-time zooming and I've heard they tend to lesser genetic health concerns than the toy Yorkie. The JRT seem to be fairly hardy dogs, too, despite their small size, and usually not as easily injured, another potential vet expense with a very small, toy dog like a Yorkie. My little Yorkie, Jilly, anteriorly dislocated her shoulder just coming down her doggie steps due to her frail joints at age 13 and had to have surgical reduction. If you have any money concerns, I would think twice about getting a toy dog with very many genetic issues that seem to be attached to so many backyard-bred Yorkies these days. It's just a word of caution to consider though if you do wind up with a Yorkie, I do hope and pray that he or she is just what you want - a real zoomer! They are the best of the breeds in my eyes, despite the medical problems some of them might have.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I walk a jack Russell terrier for an older man and his dog barks a lot. If you love Yorkies get one. Just say a prayer and let the Lord lead you to the dog you are meant to have. That's how JoJo came into my life. I love the Yorkie personality and they are loyal little lovers. Let the dog choose you. Go look and see which dog comes to you. Be prepared to fall in love! |
