Senior Yorkie Talker | First Day Home So my baby boy is coming home next weekend so I'm just trying to get everything together I want to crate train him just not sure what I should put inside the crate & how big should it be .i do work nights so he will be in the crate for a few hours well I go to work but my boyfriend will be home in the beginning because he still is a baby so he would have to take him out on bathroom breaks or check on him throughout the night |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and WELCOME to YT! Congrats on your new baby! As for crate size, it depends on whether or not you want to fit a pee pad in there. If you do, then you'll need a large one / or a larger Xpen. If not, then one that fits a place to lay/stretch and maybe a couple toys.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Hello and welcome to YT. Congrats on yotu new pup. I would start out with a x pen and a potty pad until he gets a little older. Enough for him to hold for a few hours. Then I would start crate training. There is an excellent resource book called "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days". Is very helpful. Yorkies are not as easy to housebreak. Here is the schedule that they are using. It seemed to work for Galen. Good luck http://www.leecharleskelley.com/imag...sebreaking.pdf

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks guys for all your suggestions . I'm thinking about doing both the crate & xpen ill just put the crate inside of the xpen because I work nights n i think it'll be much easier for me & the pup to know that is crate is where he can sleep ...wee wee pad in the xpen with his toys .putting him in the crate n just leaving for work I don't think would be a great idea I know he's not going to hold it for so many hours so this way he can see that he can come n go go to bed n use the bathroom in the xpen.. He's still young so he will be house trained until all his shots are done where he can go outside |
