YT 1000 Club Member | How Soon Is Too Soon To Add Another? So I've had Rasta for almost a month now and he is absolutely perfect! A little bit of a spoiled brat and protective of me but that just adds to his awesomeness . My question is: For those who have more than one yorkie and you got them at different times how long did you wait? I'm definitely trying to wait until after the major holidays, but I dont know if that would be "too soon". We waited over a year to get Rasta when we had Roxie and I think this helped with the "pack dynamics" since Roxie knows she's number 1 and there's no agression/dominance issues so far. I've spoken with Rasta's breeder and she may have a litter in the spring. She's going to keep me updated since she knows I'd want a female this time(it may turn out differently again though lol) and I'd like to get my pick before she contacts others who are waiting for puppies to become available. Also, when you did get the second pup did you go with the same breeder(if reputable) or did you look elsewhere? If you looked elsewhere for what reason(s)? My hubby will be deploying sometime in the summer so it'll just leave me with our 5 year old son and 2 dogs. Would this, be too much? |

| I waited about a year to add my 2nd. I wanted Luma to be fully potty trained (which she was, at around 7 months). Another aspect was waiting until Luma was spayed because I knew I wanted another female and thought it'd be best to not have 2 females with hormones influencing their relationship with each other. The #1 reason we wanted a second was for the socialization aspect. We would go to the dog park and Luma preferred the humans over the dogs and acted very submissive and aloof. Didn't know how to act around another dog. She is so much better now that she has Rosie around constantly. Having two yorkies was a great decision for us. It is twice the work, twice the money, twice the training time, twice the unconditional love. Totally worth it.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I lasted an entire 3 months between bringing Rhett and Scarlett home. It was a lot of work having 2 that young, but I don't regret it because they are extremely close to each other. My kids were older than your son and my DH works from home, so I had lots of help. If you are happy with Rasta's breeder, than by all means I would go to her again. The best reference is a repeat customer. Good luck with what ever you decide.

| I waited till Cedric was a year old also and then I waited a number of months and added another baby girl. i love having all three of them. as carmen says its triples for me on cost and work but they are very worth it. Lola and Keylo have finally full circle bonded and the things I see Lola doing in the last month just has me smiling from ear to ear. Keylo has brought out the playful side of Lola and honestly two girls and one boy is the best decision I could've made. I say go by what is right for you. When you feel the urg and know you have everything to offer a second I say go for it. Bonding may take time but once they do it's amazing.

| My family weren't actually planning on adding a 2nd but after about a year, we wanted Magnus to have a playmate. So we started looking and well... When mom saw Zoey, she refused to leave without her. LOL I think it was good timing for both the pups and humans. I didn't have to worry about all the training X 2 for one. And I think Magnus was nurturing because he was older. |

| I would definitely not wait for long, but I wouldn't be to quick on it either.. I had my first yorkie living at home, and when he was 2-3 years old my mother bought another one because Eros was more mine than anyone else in our family, lol. But he was used to share his home and his people with other yorkies because we watched like 4 yorkies at the same time! It went very well to bring the second dog to our household, but I'd wish we got Emma (my mothers yorkie) a little bit sooner, maybe he wouldn't depend so much on me, and more playful with other dogs.. Me and Eros moved in with my fiancee and then came Molly the yorkie (4 months old now) and Eros is 5 years.. I don't think that it a certain age that fits better, I think it's more important to find a puppy that fills out and matches your first dog But personally I would never buy another one before the first one is fully grown, remember the teenager period can be difficult and he can fast change personality! |
