| puppy classes Kewpie just finished her first 6 weeks of puppy training tonight. We had so much fun. The basics were pretty easy. Do you guys do a lot of training with your yorkies? Kewpie seemed to enjoy herself. |

| Congrats Kewpie!! Good job!! I never had Peanut take any classes.. from the moment I took him home he has been such a good boy. We do training at home. I have taught him how to sit, stay, down, roll over, high five, speak.. We are still in the process of teaching him "bang" play dead trick. That one is a little challenging. I would always recommend training sessions at home. Yorkies are eager to learn and they are super smart. Peanut always know when we will have a session and he immediately gets excited.

Puppy classes are fun- we're finishing our 6 weeks of intermediate classes tomorrow. We've made a couple good friends from the classes & it's taught me a lot about how to train Billi. We're def. not perfect, but a lot farther along than if we hadn't taken the classes. Great for socialization, too since I don't have too many friends with dogs for Billi to play with. Don't think we're ready yet for the advanced classes, but I wouldn't rule out putting her in those later on, either. She gets SO excited when she see's we're "at school" (PetSmart) & she loves her trainer How did you teach Peanut to rollover, etc? I can't get Billi on her back for the life of me (prolly a good thing LOL) so roll over seems impossible so far... Would love to get her to high 5 & really want her to "say her prayers" eventually. I just think that's such a sweet trick!

Well what I did is, I made him sit, then down. Once he was down I would take the treat in my hand and place hand/treat on the floor.. and I would start at his nose.. then I would drag my hand ( on the floor) with the treat and I told him to rollover. I did that a couple times then I would make him sit, lay down, I would do the same thing but this time I would have the treat in my hand and say roll over and I would make a circle with my hand.. You can put them on their back and when they flip you can reward them, tell them good rollover.. then you can try the above.. Does this make sense LOL? Let me know if you have questions. I found these links too 3 Ways to Train Your Dog to Roll Over - wikiHow This is another way.. I just did the movement on the ground. Dog Tricks : Roll Over Dog Trick - YouTube

| I've been training at home, I'm good at teaching Lola tricks but I need to work on commands. I'm not sure how to teach her come since she's usually glued to me or too distracted. She knows: sit, down, stand, sit pretty, up (stand on hind legs), roll over, and she just learned shake. She's picked the tricks up really fast. I taught her to roll over by having her lay down and then bringing a treat from her nose to the base of her tail, basically it's a half circle. |

| Congratulations on finishing the puppy class, just make sure to do all the stuff you learned, several times a day, it really helps, and gets them ready for the next level of training. Gina finished puppy class 3 weeks ago, Saturday we start intermediate class, but our instructor is doing something new, she has made this one a small breed class. There a a couple of older ladies with small dogs and don't want to be in a class with bigger dogs, ans since she knew I was coming back she asked if we wanted to go through it as well. I'm looking forward to this class since she is tailoring it to smaller breeds and owners with having problems bending or squatting to do some of the commands. Personally I have no problems with Gina and bigger dogs, especially in a controlled environment, but, this class sounds perfect.Again congrats, and keep it up. Cheers Quad
