| Trimming hair on ears So tomorrow I am going to trim Gizmos ear hair to take the weight off, as the hair is really long. Thankfully I'm a licensed cosmetologist, so that should help me some as I have very nice equipment. The problem I'm worried about, is e never sits still lol. He is still scared to death of the blow dryer and we are working on my vets advice, which was to get an electric toothbrush and let him play with it to desensitize him from the loud noise, so I just want to use my scissors and nothing that makes noise. Does anyone have any suggestions for trimming a puppies ears that does not sit still, and that things that make noise want to kill him ? Thanks so much in advance for any and all suggestions xoxoxo . |

| Be very careful and enlist someone to help hold him!

| If he doesn't sit still enough for you to even use scissors, I really think you should get someone to help you until he gets used to it. I made the mistake of thinking I could handle it and.. it was really bad.... Also, have styptic powder just in case. It took a while but being food driven helped. Perhaps you can give his absolute favorite treat during the trimming so he can associate that with something good. |

| Yup...have someone help you hold his head still. Doing that should make it go really quickly and might help Gizmo gradually realize it is painless and fast and he gets treats after...oh, so give treats after

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Get an extra large bath towel and roll him up like a Yorkie Burrito than have someone hold him while you do the cutting or vise versa which ever would make him the most comfortable. Be sure to talk to him in a nice calming voice and be sure to have treats available every step of the way. "Cheerios" are great !

| Yep that's why I'm waiting till tomorrow, because hubby is off work, so he's going to be the holder. The good thing is Gizmo already sits and stays on command, although I don't think this will be one of the situations he will listen to it haha. He also absolutely loves these treats that are dehydrated salmon, and I just take off very tiny pieces at a time to give him in training. I also have another dehydrated treat he loves that is beef, brown rice, and sweet potato. I have a huge bag of awesome different packs of treats I got at home goods. I'm really thinking they need to put an alarm system at home goods, that when it sees me coming, the store should go on lock down before I can get in the door hahaha. It was brought to my attention today, when my daughter came over to visit and reminded me, she's my child not Gizmo LOL. I will update and post a pic after he's all trimmed up :-) I love the burrito idea, that is what I used to use all the time when working with feral cats, as well as when I had parrots and would trim their nails and flight feathers. I also always had the powder handy in case of a nip. I will go get some go that in the morning. Thanks so much for the great ad ice xoxo. Ohhhh I was also wondering should I do the trimming wet or dry? He does sit still well while getting a bath, maybe that could work to my advantage? I just want it to be as stress fee for him as possible :-) Thank you all again so much xoxo PS. My daughter Leanna said I also need to take a break from YT LOL, yea like that's going to happen hehe. |

| I am a licensed cosmetologist also but I never used shears on mine until they were older and understood the sit command well. It is really easy to get the ear leather if they move at the wrong time. The best way is to use your small clippers and shave away from the head toward your fingers. Best of luck.

| It's so easy to use the trimmers, with no worry of cutting him. Just hold your hand on one side of the ear, press the clipper where you want to start cutting, & one run up the ear & you've got most of the hair off. Do both ears quickly first, then come back & see if he lets you touch it up a little more. I think my girls really enjoy having their ears trimmed. Good luck tomorrow!

| Well I went for it with the trimmers, and all went pretty good. My husband wasn't much help holding him haha, because he's afraid he was going to hurt him, so I just did it all myself :-) I think I need to get a bit more hair off the left ear, because he looks funny right now. I think I got more off his right ear so it's popping up a bit, and the left one is still laying down, or maybe one is just stronger than the other. Right now his head looks lopsided because the one ear is half way up and the other is laying flat haha. I tried the yobaby yogurt and cottage cheese with his food. He does not care for the cottage cheese at all but loves the yogurt, which is fine because I read the calcium contents, and the yogurt actually has 15% more calcium then the cottage cheese :-) |

| I knew the trimmers would work for you! I'd love to see a pic to see Gizmo & see how you did! Did you shave both sides & the edges?

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Maybe its in fast mode . . But regardless I hope he is really really good at what he does. The way he uses those scissors around that pups face and ears scares me. . . Yikes !! I wonder if he has ever cut an ear ?
