| New little Yorkie family Hello...my name is Andrea and I have had Yorkies for 15 years. In April 2012 my beloved Kaylie passed away after 14 years of the best life I could have given her. She played and fetched till the end. When Kaylie was about 2 1/2 years old she had one puppy who I kept, named Kolby, he is now 12 and although a larger Yorkie, very happy and playful. So after losing my Kaylie, my mom decided to give me her Yorkie puppy who was about 4 mos old, named Laci. She is about 3 1/2 lbs and truly saved me much heartache and filled a void in our lives, which I didn't think was possible. She has been the best Yorkie, loves going everywhere, loves people and playing with her little boyfriend Jagger who is also a 3 1/2 lb stud. And finally, we decided to breed Laci and Jagger and are now blessed with 5, YES 5 little Yorkie babies! They are now 6 1/2 weeks old and we are loving every minute of it. So now after a brief history...please any advice will be much appreciated. We have decided to keep two of the puppies, the little runt, a girl (which Laci was also), and the first born, a big boy. The other 3 are going to close friends for a reasonable price, so we plan to keep them playmates for life. I'm hoping to keep them together for the full 12 weeks like I've seen advised on here, although my one friend prob can't wait that long, lol...but I want to start pot training them the best way I can. They go for their first shots on Tuesday cuz they were too small to get any yet, but still can't go outside, so been reading about play areas and puppy apartments. And since we will be keeping two along with our two, we will have 4 Yorkies in the house! Laci and Kolby have had the run of the house and sleep with us, but I am planning on crating the two I'm keeping when the rest go to their new homes and was wondering if I should crate the two puppies together or separate within their play area we made for them. Sorry for the long post and I hope to meet some great people on here. Thanks, Andrea |

| I am assuming you are now training them to use puppy pee pads? It would be a good start for them to at least have the idea of how to use the pee pads. They are life savers to use until they are old enough to start learning to go outside. If you have a decent size play pen, (big enough for a pee pad dishes and a bed that will fit them both) then leaving them together would probably be comforting for them. They still love to cuddle as puppies and hate to be alone. |

| Congrats on the newly expanded family and welcome to YT! You are very lucky to have such a large and healthy litter from such a tiny dam. I understand that the recommendation is to never breed a female under 5 lbs because of the danger involved. I'm so glad you have healthy, happy babies and mom did well. Are you planning to spay Laci now that you have your family complete? I would recommend it with a stud in the house to prevent any accidents You found the right place for yorkie lovers. Many passionate folks here! Can't wait for pics!!! Love love love puppies! Again, welcome to YT !!! Oh, and I can't offer any potty training advice since my little one seems to be regressing instead of progressing! I'm sure there are many with yorkies that are actually trained that can help you much more!

| Hi and thank you for the warm welcome! Gracielove--Yes yes we've been using pee pee pads since day one, but they still go wherever they want. I guess I'm curious if they're old enough to start training, correcting, etc. They'll be 7 weeks on Wednesday. We pretty much gate off a safe play area depending if we are in our bedroom or living room and then we have a basic kitchen area where they stay when we leave. I'm trying to figure out how to upload pics, but here is a link to my public album of the puppies. https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A1G4TcsmGeFW3A And Hi Marilyn, yes that's what I thought they told us back when I bred Kaylie...but Laci's mom was tiny too and had a litter of 6!! And I felt we were safe cuz Jagger (stud) was so tiny, up to a half pound smaller than Laci at times. So I checked with our vet and he didn't seem worried at all...and I think cuz she was only 18 mos when got pregnant helped too. But yes, I was praying the entire time and keeping a very close watch on her, even had X-rays. We were prepared for the cost of ER visit/c-section, whatever it took. We were very blessed that she had no complications, altho she delivered on day 57, they all survived, but the runt was kinda iffy first cpl days. Laci is a very tough Yorkie...I was with her every minute and so proud. Please check out link above for tons of puppy pics! |

| It looks like maybe you are using the kind of pads that are meant for hospital use and that kind of thing? The commercial pee pads have a hormone on them. Only dogs can smell it but it is a scent that encourages them to potty on that spot. It certainly helps with the process. I know they sell a liquid housebreaking aid that you could try putting on the pads. It might help to attract them to pee in the right place. I have read mixed reviews on them so I can't say for sure how well they work. I do know that if you get a good brand of puppy pee pads it will help. Puppies have a muscle that controls the flow of urine and their stool but it does not start to develop until they are about 16 weeks so you really have to keep them close to the potty when they are young. They really don't have control. The scent of the urine does help attract them to the right place to go. They have an inborn instinct to want to pee where someone has already gone even if it is their own. It isn't too soon to start putting them on the pad when you think they may have to go. Reward them when they get it right. Don't punish for mistakes. Rewarding the correct action is much more beneficial in potty training. You do have to have 6 hands and a dozen sets of eyes, however, especially with the size litter you have! You are going to busy for a while. |

| Love the album! OMG, they are adorable! Reminds me of when I brought Huey home at 7 1/2 weeks. So, so cute!!!!! I'm with Jeane...I would have a hard time letting any of them go. It is wonderful that they are all going to be close and you can see them growing and have play dates. Here is the link on posting pics, because you can't post too many puppy pics! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-pictures.html

| One of my biggest reason of having Zoey fixed was b/c if I did breed her, I wouldn't be able to let go any of the litter(s) she have... But if I were in your shoes, I'd probably give it a 2nd thought. Absolutely love your place! Made me think, "I'd love to send my pups there for daycare..." LOL |
