| Omg-morphine...???!!! Last summer my dad died, then 6 weeks later my mom fell and broke her hip. Since then, she and her Cavalier have been staying with us. My mom is on Morphine for pain in her back. This afternoon while cleaning I found a 30 mg tablet of Morphine on the floor!!!!! It was right next to the pups water dishes!!!! I'm really upset-and scared, sad, mad. One of my babies could be dead right now! I've been thinking lately that its not working out so great anymore for her to be here, but right now she has nowhere else to go. My sister and her family were renting a house from my parents and this past December it caught on fire. It is almost rebuilt, but until they can move back in they are staying at my mom's very small house, and there just isn't any room for mom to go home until they do. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to keep my pups safe without kicking mom out? If something happened to Puff, or Luke, or Grace because of my mother, I would never forgive her.

| I am sorry for your loss of your dad, and that you are in this difficult position with your mom. Can you take charge of her medicine? Put it in a place where she can't find it and then give it to her as she needs it? Sounds like if she is dropping it on the floor, she probably needs supervision for her meds. Are you home all day, or do you work outside your home? Is your mom home alone with your pups?

| I agree with Maximo. Manage the meds for your mom. Or have a talk with her about finding the pill on the floor. She needs to be made aware to be more careful. I love my pets so much, but I would always put my dear mom first if I were ever in that situation. Goodluck.

1) Have you thought to move their Water Bowl away from that area ? 2) Did you really expect a Senior Person not to ever drop a Pill ? 3) How DARE you put your animals before your own MOTHER !!! 4) The only thing I'd blame your Mom for, is a lack of enforcement of Corporal Punishment a few years back.

| Either take charge of the meds or have a designated area (e.g. bathroom) where all pills are stored and taken and don't allow the pups near that room. It is possible for any one of us to drop a pill and not realize it or give our pups access to something toxic accidentally. My mom disn't pck her pup's food up a few weeks ago and my girl got into it. It is not toxic but anything like tat can put my girl in a life threatening situation. It was just an accident, not the unforgivable sin.

| Once my Grandpa dropped a pill and I found it under the table where Callie likes to lay and although I don't think Callie would have eaten it my moms yorkie who comes over at least once a week would have eaten it. I had bought my Grandpa a pill box a year or so ago and he fills it at the table every Saturday and that's when it got dropped so after telling him how important it is not to drop a pill or if you do to pick it up right away my Grandma decided to sit at the table with him every time he refills his pill box to make sure he doesn't drop anything or if he does to see it and get it. Now he makes sure she sits at the table with him when he does it because he loves Callie a lot and worries about it now.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I take a lot of pills everyday. DH bought me a pill organizer. Every Sunday I put in all my pills for each day through the week. I keep it on my nightstand by my bed. Perhaps something of this nature might help. At least it's away from the water bowls. I hope you find a solution.

| The OP said she was putting her pups before her mother. She has every right to do that , I guess. I'm just saying my morals are different. If my family member accidentally harmed my pet, I'm sure my family member would feel guilty as heck without me being 'kicking her out" at her on top of it. So, personally, I don't hold grudges.

YT 2000 Club Member | Bless you for taking care of your Mother. I lost my dear Mom last year, but we were blessed with her living with us off and on through out her last few years. Mom loved our fur babies and they loved her too. As Mom aged her hands became unsteady and her sight not as good as before, so at times she too would drop a pill every once in a while. When that time came, we just made a transition of me assisting her with her meds. This made her feel safer knowing she was getting the correct dosages of her meds. This worked for us well.

| As it was late when I posted, I left some things unsaid. My mother has been here for a year, and I thought she was following "rules" that she had insisted on when she moved in, such as no meds anywhere around the pups. We are both RNs, and med safety has always been a logical part of having any medications. She is still working as a nurse-she is not some frail little old lady. I love my mother and would never really make her leave my house! As some couldn't figure it out-i was speaking metaphorically! I had hoped that by posting here I would be able to express my frustration to people that love their furkids like I love mine!
