| Soooooo full of energy I know Yorkies are little dynamos but Scooter is off the charts. I play with him for at least an hour a day, throwing his beloved Wubba. We can't walk that often because it's so stupid hot outside. Even in the evenings it's still suffocatingly hot. His sis, Bitsy, would rather sleep than play with him so that leaves him to work off excess energy by running laps around the pool and when he's inside running laps through the kitchen, hall and living room. Right now I just moved my chair a little and he popped right up and is staring at me with his "OK what now Mom" look. I feel badly because I think I should be doing more for him. I know an hour may not be enough but I'm pooped when I get home from work and that's all I've got to give. Any suggestions for keeping him busy and maybe channeling that energy somewhere else?

| Can you take him on a walk in the evening, before the sun goes down?

| I know what you mean...it's crazy hot here. I'm thinkin grab a glass of Ice Tea and take him swimmin for a while. It should feel good to him after those laps he's runnin. I feel your pain. I have a speed demon too and 1 hour out of her crate or ex-pen is just not enough. Most days she requires 3-4 hours which can be hard. And yes I cannnot make a move or she is right behind me. Little turkeys are just like babies. Gotta Love Em!!

| OK just got back from a 20 min. walk.....that's all I could do in this heat. He took a quick recharge nap and now he's staring at me waiting for my next play time with him. I guess my problem is that I feel guilty that he's bored. Silly? Probably, but I can't help it. He just looks at me with that cute little face and I'm scrambling to help him. Darn Yorkies.

| This might sound stupid but... Have you thought about a doggie treadmill? It's expensive but if you can afford it, maybe that would be a good solution. Or.. maybe there's a DIY on how to build one. I was thinking if you're too tired to walk him, you can sit next to or close by the treadmill and watch him instead... |

| You know doggie treadmill isn't such a bad idea. I have been looking at them online and whew they are expensive. That is an excellent idea tho. I know Scooter would like it because he's a constant motion guy. Maybe I'll look at Craig's List. Thanks.

| Yipes 2 of the little dynamos? My HOA says no more than 2 dogs so that's out. Does anyone else feel guilty that your Yorkie might be bored? I do and somehow he knows it and plays it to the hilt. Little monkey.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Oh I forgot you had Bitsy. How old is she? Yes we are the same,. We live in an estate with an HOA that saids two dogs only. Which is why Hollee harasses Lucy our 12yr old. But she also comes after us when we sit down and wants us to play. I find if she has an evening walk, she is flat out on our laps sleeping when we want to sit and be quite. And it's coolish weather here at the moment so we have no excuse. Our rainy season starts soon. He needs a large hamster excercise wheel Good luck. Ax

| Big hamster wheel. That's wonderful. Lot's cheaper than a doggie treadmill. Now if only I can find a giant hamster somewhere and borrow his exercise wheel..........

| If these dogs were not pampered little pets they would be outside seeking out vermin to chase and kill. Hard to believe that something so cute was bred to kill rodents. That is why their minds are so busy. They have laser sharp little minds and tons of energy. What does he do during the day while you are gone? Is it possible for him to have enough area to entertain himself while you are gone? It is hard on an energetic young dog to be too cooped up for a long time. Does he like to play with his toys? Sounds like he is really bonded to you and just wants to be with you. Maybe you could try to involve him in things you are doing. I know they are not good cooks but maybe you could throw the ball a few times while you are going about your routine and play some more fetch while you watch TV or read. I never take Gracie outside when it is really hot either. During our hottest part of the year I usually only take her for a walk early in the morning. We are starting to get cooler evenings now so she is back to her two walk a day schedule. She even knows when it is time to go. She must know how to read the clock. |

| I haven't a clue what he does when I'm not there but I'm sure he sits by the front door and looks out to see if any intruders are approaching. I have two feral cats that I've been feeding for almost 3 years and they stop by several times a day and several times a day and Scooter goes ballistic. Lots of running and barking. I guess that helps run a bit off his energy. He has lots and lots of toys but he only plays with them when I either throw them or hold them so he can play tug-a-war. I throw his "indoor Wubba" to him in the house at night. My house is long so he can run to get it. He's not exactly young. I got him as a rescue and the vet thought he was around 2 at the time so he should be 7 now. He's my baby and I love him dearly.
