| does this qualify as a puppy mill? I know puppy mills are just the worst. My vet has anti-puppy mill posters all over his office. I think the whole idea of them is just atrocious. And here it looks like I have one right around the corner, so to speak, from my. Actually, it's the next town over. http://www.abakennels.com/ Does this qualify as a puppy mill? What really sets the alarm off for me is the mandatory 'you must call before coming' phrase. Why? so they can clean up? Anyway, I didn't know if you have a puppy mill list somewhere, but if you do, you can add this one to it. No one breeder would be able to breed as many different types of dogs as this place does without a large mill like setting. And calling it a "kennel" does not make it any less of a puppy mill.

| kennel According to the Oxford dictionary, a kennel is a place where dogs are bred or boarded. A puppymill is a kennel where dogs are bred in volume. These breeders have over 25 different breeds, how they can not be a mill is questionable. |

| I agree, they have alot of breeds, which means a ton of dogs.. I'd make an appt. and check it out for yourself, see how it is run,and what they let you see and what they dont. And go from there.

| I agree as well. The large number of breeds available is a red flag, but so too is the fact that even though they have business hours, they say you "must" (and they themselves put quotes around the word) make an appointment. I can understand making an appointment with a breeder who breeds in their home, but why would you have to make an appointment to visit a business aslong as it during the hours that they are open? My mentor runs a daycare/boarding facility and tells people that they are more than welcome to stop by anytime to check the place out and to see her Yorkies. If you are able to, I would definitely check the place out so that you can see for yourself what type of place this is. Good luck!

| Besides the fact that they want you to call before you come, they have business hours. I don't know, something about that rubs me the wrong way. JMHO

| My vote is YES! that is a mill or at the very best a broker. I do not allow visitors without appts either for the same reasons Snow Yorkies lists. I have made only ONE exception and "you know who you are"..LOL I cannot think of any reason why I could make an argument in favor of a facility like that, but I can think of a lot of aruments against them.. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | WOW do they have ALOT OF BREEDS !! Way too many to care for those dogs properly .....and I would have to say yes they are a form of mill - Maybe not the filfth and neglect we associate with mills ....but I can't see how anyone can keep that many dogs on a property and sell healthy animals I sure wouldn't ever get a dog from them. I couldn't believe how many breeds they listed ... |

| If you were breeding your dogs in your own home, I would agree call before you arrive. That goes without saying at my house just in general - I hate unexpected visitors! But a place that defines itself as a business with business hours and you can't just walk in? Again, red flag. I found out about this place when I started looking for a Yorkie. Someone I know know's someone else who got two pugs from this place. That woman emailed me directly to tell me to check them out cause they have pretty much any small breed I would want. I was just shocked. Even our local pet stores don't have this many different breeds at one time!
