| Any difference between AKC and ACA? I was just wondering if anyone knew the difference between AKC and ACA. Is one better than the other? What happens if they come one but not the other?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ACA was started by Petland and if you know anything about them, you would not want an ACA puppy, chances are it came from a puppy mill. AKC is really the only reputable registry for Yorkies, too many of the other registries take the breeders word for it. If you want a purebred, please go to a reputable breeder who registers her dogs with the AKC. If you don't really care if the dog is a purebred, you can find many mixes in shelter and rescues. Here's more information about registries. Registries

| Canadian Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club are equally as respectable as the AKC and Canadian Kennel Club is more strict in some areas than AKC is. If you start looking at responsible breeders, especially show breeders, you are very likely to find her pups registered with any of these three registries.....you are doing well with a pup from any of these three. .....please go to each home site and learn about these valuable organizations. |

| Agree with the above, but please make sure that CKC stands for Canadian Kennel Club and NOT Continental Kennel Club. I think the latter purposely chose that acronym to confuse people. The Canadian registry is reputable, the Continental one is not. And if you're wondering why those other registries are not reputable; they will register anything, as any breed, just bc you said so and sent them a check. There is a member here who literally registered her coffee table to see if she could. Yup she could.

Are a lot of Yorkies even registered with United Kennel Club? I thought it was more for working breeds and even most of them had duel registrations with the AKC?

| I think it's MicheleM that did, and I don't think there's a thread but she does mention it here and there.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I did a little more research on the UKC and another problem I have with them is that they will register AKC dogs sold on limited registration. If a breeder decides to sell a dog on limited registration, it's wrong for any other breeder to buy the dog and breed it and sell the offspring as purebreds. The UKC doesn't have a problem with this. I applaud the AKC with recognizing the problem that not every "purebred" should be bred, and not every person who buys a pet would make a good breeder. I believe the AKC is the only registry worldwide that allows breeders to sell on limited registration, not sure about the Canadian Club, but what good is it if someone can just go to another registry and register the offspring? In my opinion, this makes the UKC a very poor registry. Quote:
They say that they require three pictures of the dog, but this doesn't address the fact that the person doesn't have breeding rights. The UKC will accept AKC dogs as purebreds, but the reverse isn't true, the AKC will not accept UKC dogs as purebreds, and I believe the registry with the highest standards, is the only registry to consider when choosing a breeder. For more information see: UKC Forums - registering AKC limited Registration

| My issue with AKC was when I first started breeding, I sent my litter registration information to AKC, like you are supposed to, when the pups from that litter were sold.. I sell on a spay/neuter contract...when they spay/neuter the pup, and the vet verifies it, I then send the puppys registration paper to the new owners. When they come to pick up their baby, and we go over everything for 2+ hours, they are shown the application for registration for their baby, they even are asked to put their own name, in their own writing, on the application, so they know there has not been any switching of papers. Well, the AKC took it upon themselves to go ahead and send duplicate registration applications to the new owners, from the information they gathered from the litter record information I had sent them. They did this, unknown to me and totally against what my business policy is, so they could collect the $$$$ for the registration of those babies! Thank God the people that bought that litter from me, were honest and understood how the pups were sold, and they did exactly what we had agreed to do...but they COULD have just kept the pups intact, used them for breeding, and never looked back. I found that reprehensible on the part of the AKC, just so they could collect their pound of flesh. They did not care if those babies were spayed/neutered or not...their sole interest is to generate revenue for themselves, pizz on me and my policies and spaying/neutering pups. I resent that! So I think all registeries have issues with some of their practices and their policies.....and some of them are NOT in the best interest of the breeder, but are aimed at generating revenue for themselves. | Yep, it was my friend. She breeds Great Danes. She registered her coffee table as a Great Dane and named it appropriately "Coffee Table". Hers was with ACA, and she could have sent her ACA registration to the APRI and got dual registration if she had sent them the copy of the ACA certificate, her registration form and a check. Her coffee table has yet to produce any baby coffee tables, but if it does, she's going to register her litter as well.

| No. Thats why those registries are bogus! She didn't even have to prove she had a dog. She could have just as well registered her cat as a great dane. Or her pet chinchilla. And I'll let her know she has potential buyers for any liters in the future lol.
