| Rescue Yorkie, few questions I just rescued a 5 month old male yorkie from the pound, he came from a puppy mill/hoarding situation. The shelter told me that he was so flea infested when they got him they practically had to shave him. He is now flea free and on a preventative. My vet has him on a special diet to help his coat and skin. I'm just curious as to a few things.... 1. How long will it take for his hair to start to grow out to where he actually looks like a yorkie? I love him nonetheless, but I'm excited for long hair lol. 2. If you can tell from the pics, it looks like his snout is super long because it has NO hair, and it doesn't seem to be growing in like on the rest of his body...any particular reason why maybe? 3. He has TERRIBLE breath, the vet told me to buy him dental chews and brush his teeth. Any home remedies out there for bad breath or teeth cleaning? I hate buying products and usually am able to find a home concoction to make myself but this time I haven't been able to come up with anything. I've attached 2 pics, both are from after his bath and grooming today, I'll add pics of him before (the day I got him) in my next post. |

| Hi there and welcome YT. Your baby is just adorable. I really can't answer as to how long it may take for his hair grow. As for his breath, he is only 5 months old. Have you looked in his mouth to see if any retained puppy teeth? It will look he has a double set of teeth. This can cause bad breath by food getting trapped in the teeth. Baby teeth if they haven't fallen out by the time are ready to be neutered/spyed the Vet will remove them at that time. I think it's great you adopted him.

| Thank you for rescuing this little guy! As for his breath, what do his teeth look like? I would recommend getting a dental when you neuter him. This should help with the stinky breath. Just give his hair some time... It will take a while, but his hair should come in.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Congratulations on your new baby! Its really great of you to have rescued him and giving him a new lease on life and a loving home. He is adorable!! What is his name? As far as his hair growing back, I think it just depends on each individual dog. Make sure he is on a well balanced diet. I'm betting that will help. And, I'm with the others about his breath. He probably still has some puppy teeth that never fell out. So, now he has a double row of tight fitting teeth in there. I would have have the vet pull these out when you have him neutered. That should take care of the problem. I would also add kibble to his diet to help keep his teeth cleaner. Good luck with your baby and I cant wait to see more pictures!!! Welcome to YT!!!

| Anna's nose looked just like that when we got her. I assumed it was because she rubbed the hair off from sticking her nose through the crate she had been in. She had been in that situation for over 5 years and her hair is coming in nicely after just a few months. Like you, I can't wait for her hair to completely grow in. Congratulations on your new baby.

| Congrats & welcome to YT Your little baby is a cutie! I agree that at 5 months, he may be teething. That can sometimes cause stinky mouth. You can ask your vet to examine his teeth. In the meantime, you can try Tropiclean Fresh Breath Water Additive. They have it on Amazon for around than $10. It's a liquid that you add to their drinking water to help reduce plaque & lessen the need for the toothbrush. I've used it before & I'm not positive if it helped with plaque build up. But it did help with mouth odor. Good luck!

| Congrats and welcome. With a little love and patience his hair will come in. He is a very cute boy, love the ears. As you have already been told, check to make sure that he doesnt have any retained teeth. Mina had bad breath because she still had her puppy fangs and food got stick inbetween the sets of fangs. You need to begin to work on learning to brush,it really does make a difference. Also I use an oral gel on all of my dogs mouths. It is called "OraZn Pet Oral Care" it neutralizes the bacteria in their mouth that causes plax and bad breath. I put a little on a qtip, swab back molars on one side, put a little more gel on the other end and do the other side. This doesnt replace brushing but it does help inbetween brushing. We do this every evening. |

| Just wanted to say thank you for saving him. He's adorable! I'm not really good about brushing my two furballs teeth but I give them low odor (odorless) bully sticks with my supervision. I also use a syringe to use give them the mouth wash instead of using the spray mechanism. They hate the spray but will put up with the syringe. Just poke it in at the sides of the mouth and inject, then rub. |
