| Where to find reputable breeders? Is there a way to search for reputable breeders? I know you can search yorkie breeders but we want to be sure it's not a greeder/puppy mill type situation. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | So glad you asked this! I'd recommend checking out the Library here on YT: Breeding and Breed-Specific Library - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community It's a great place to start as well as checking with your local YTCA group (Yorkshire Terrier Club of America). Good luck in your search & welcome to Yorkietalk! (If you need a hand, don't hesitate to ask )

| You may want to start with the breeder referrals at the YTCA. Breeder Referral And then research your breeders from that pool. I got my pup from Deb Sillers and Amazing Yorkies and couldn't possibly be happier with little Cookie (Deb has posted here since I think 2005).

| Well, you can ask around here. There is a breeder section -- however, it's open to almost everybody and there's no guaranty that the breeder is reputable. You can look at the list of breeders in your local YTCA chapter. Best bet is to really take time and educate yourself on the breed & breeder. Call the breeders & talk to them at length. Ask about all their "policies." Ask about the testing they do on their pups/sires/dams. Visit breeder's homes if possible. You have to know what you're looking for in a puppy too. Learn as much as you can about the breed. There's TONS of info online and some people here have recommended "Yorkies for Dummies" (not saying that you're a dummy, of course.) If you have any questions about a particular breeder, you can ask here. Do google searches to find complaints or rip-off reports. Remember, if your gut tells you that something's not right, then it probably isn't right. Good luck. Part of the most fun is the actual search for the right puppy! He/she is out there. |

I would, however, advise the original poster & anyone reading this to use caution with any breeder found, not every breeder here on YT is reputable. A very thorough research is key.

| Thanks everyone! Our Riley boy we rescued but we discovered he's a puppy mill yorkie that's why we are going to be extremely picky when it comes to adding a 2nd fur baby into our home. |

| Yep, always buy the breeder. I talked with at least 25 different breeders when looking for my new pup, and Deb was my favorite, so I got my girl from her.
